His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, has passed away at the age of 71.

The monarch died on Friday morning in Abuja after a prolonged illness, prompting an outpouring of grief from Zamfara State and beyond.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara described the late Emir’s death as a personal blow.

He praised the monarch’s legacy, citing his wisdom, guidance, and dedication to the state throughout his decade on the throne.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” Governor Lawal stated.

He extended his sympathies to the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and all residents of the state.

“His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria as a whole. He was a supportive royal father and a leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of our state,” the governor said.

Dr. Ibrahim Bello was the 15th Emir of Gusau, ascending to the throne on March 16, 2015.

Over the course of his reign, he earned respect for his commitment to peace, faith, and community development.

Prior to becoming Emir, he served as a distinguished civil servant, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State.

Reflecting on their close relationship, Governor Lawal said: “I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guided me and other leaders in the state. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
