A somber mood enveloped King’s College, Lagos, following the discovery of a 48-year-old teacher, Mr. Ezekiel Akano, dead inside one of the school’s classrooms on Saturday evening.
The incident, described as mysterious, took place after school hours, with staff members finding his lifeless body around 7:40 pm.
Vice Principal of the college, Mr. Oguniyi Ayodele, reported the tragic discovery to the Lagos State Police Command.
According to security expert, Zagazola Makama, who shared the news on his X handle, the case was brought to public attention based on information from police sources.
Makama revealed that Vice Principal Ayodele was informed of Mr. Akano’s death at the school premises located at No. 3 Catholic Mission Street, Lagos Island.
Following the report, a team of detectives was dispatched immediately to investigate.
“The area was cordoned off for investigation, and photographs were taken,” Makama noted.
A preliminary examination of the body reportedly found no visible signs of violence.
The deceased, a native of Oyo State, was transported to the Lagos Island Hospital in Odan.
A medical doctor there confirmed him dead on arrival. The body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Makama added that police have launched a full investigation into the matter and assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
Attempts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, for further comments were unsuccessful.
He did not respond to phone calls or text messages sent to his mobile line.
