A mother and five of her children lost their lives in the early hours of Monday following the collapse of their home in Dankama village, Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The heartbreaking incident occurred around 2:00 am during a heavy downpour that weakened the structure, leading to its collapse while the family was asleep.

The house belongs to Muhammad Sani Garba, the bereaved father, who was not at home at the time.

“This affected about ten people, but sadly six died. Four others are currently in the hospital receiving treatment,” Sani told reporters.

The deceased were identified as Mariya Sani, 45, and her children: Mujahid Sani, 20, Zahariya Sani, 18, Hauwa Sani, 15, Amira Sani, and five-year-old Nura Sani.

News of the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community. Neighbours, relatives and sympathisers have been visiting the family’s residence to offer their condolences and support.

Despite his profound loss, Muhammad Sani expressed a deep sense of faith, saying, “I see this as the will of Allah. May He grant them eternal rest.”

The Executive Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Binta Dangani, confirmed the incident, noting that agency officials had visited the scene to assess the damage and offer support.
