President Tinubu,

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Mathew Adamu as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.

Before this appointment, Prof. Adamu was a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, under the College of Veterinary Medicine at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi.

He is a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria and a member of the Knight of St. Mulumba (KSM).

The Federal Ministry of Education, through a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Abel O. Enitan, confirmed that the appointment is effective from Monday, August 11, 2025, and will last for a three-month period.

According to the ministry, Professor Adamu’s primary responsibility is to support the university’s Governing Council in completing the ongoing process of appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with statutory regulations and established procedures.

He becomes the second Acting Vice-Chancellor named by the Federal Government following the dismissal of Professor Aisha Maikudi.

Prior to Adamu’s appointment, Professor Lar Patricia Manko was selected as acting VC for a non-renewable six-month tenure.
