The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Hon. Olatunji Adewale, popularly known as Murphy, suffered a setback on Saturday as he lost his own polling unit to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Adewale, who voted at Ward 10, Unit 27, secured just six votes, while his PDP opponent, Hon. Folajinmi Oyekunle, polled nine votes to win the unit.

The Labour Party candidate trailed with two votes, bringing the total valid votes cast to 17 out of 248 registered voters at the polling unit.

Though this is only one polling unit among many, early results from other locations indicate that the PDP candidate may be gaining an early lead as vote counting progresses.

The low turnout has raised concerns about voter apathy, even as electoral officials continue collating results across the constituency.

The outcome at Adewale’s polling unit may not significantly affect the overall result, but it reflects the highly competitive nature of the bye-election in Ibadan North, a constituency traditionally considered a political battleground in Oyo State.
