The Ebonyi State Police Command has announced the rescue of two kidnapped students and the recovery of a cache of weapons following a string of successful operations across the state.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, the rescue took place on August 14, 2025, after officers from the Ikwo Division discovered the victims in an uncompleted building.

The students were found unharmed. Three suspects; James Nweke, Oliver Nwali, and Nwojiji Onyebuchi  were arrested at the scene and remain in custody as investigations continue.

CP Uche-Anya, while briefing journalists on the Command’s achievements between July and mid-August 2025, said the police have intensified efforts to curb crime and ensure public safety in the state.

15 assorted firearms, 50 rounds of various calibres of ammunition, and 6 vehicles were recovered during various raids.

131 suspects (120 males and 11 females) were arrested for different crimes.

Of these, 52 have already been charged to court, while investigations are ongoing for the remaining suspects.

On July 28, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence, raided a gang hideout in Umuogodo-Akpu Ngbo, Ohaukwu LGA.

The operation led to the arrest of Icha Chidiebere and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a Dakota vehicle, and a Lexus 330 SUV without a registration number.

On August 6, the Special Anti-Cult Squad apprehended a robbery suspect, Nwali Sunday, in Onueke for his involvement in stealing motorcycles at gunpoint.

A KC Sanyang motorcycle was recovered. Efforts are ongoing to track down other gang members.

The Command also arrested individuals involved in inciting violence in Ihie/Ezza Ekembe, Ivo LGA.

On August 14, one Agboti Kingsley, allegedly hired as a mercenary, was arrested and is assisting with investigations.

Additionally, the police apprehended suspects involved in the Ekoli Edda crisis, which led to the murder of Udu Nnachi on July 9.

Those arrested include Amarachi Ude, Idika Ama Okoro, and Sunday Ama Olughu.

The Police Commissioner highlighted the recurring issue of land and boundary disputes during the farming season.

She said the command has adopted early warning systems and non-violent conflict resolution strategies to prevent clashes.

“We remain proactive in monitoring high-risk areas and continue to engage community stakeholders in dialogue to settle disputes peacefully,” CP Uche-Anya said.

She commended the public for their cooperation and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
