Nollywood has lost one of its respected pioneers as Fabian Adibe, best known for his memorable role in the acclaimed TV adaptation of Things Fall Apart, has died at the age of 81.

The news of his passing was confirmed early Wednesday by journalist and film producer Seun Oloketuyi, who posted on social media:

“Things Fall Apart actor, Fabian Adibe, is dead. Died 2:30 am this morning.”

Adibe, who turned 81 in December 2024, reportedly died peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The actor gained national recognition for his portrayal of Ogbuefi Uzowulu, a central character in the 1987 televised adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s literary masterpiece.

He starred alongside legendary actor Pete Edochie, who played Okonkwo.

Before his acting breakthrough, Adibe was already a cultural figure of note, he led Nigeria’s delegation to the first Commonwealth Art Festival in 1965, well before joining the television scene.

Known for his dignified screen presence and calm delivery, Adibe remained a cherished figure in Nigerian entertainment, leaving a legacy that resonated across generations.
