The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Eze Elechi Amadi, for allegedly murdering his 18-year-old younger brother, Otu Ifeanyi and attempting to dispose of his body by hiding it inside a plastic drum.
Amadi was paraded alongside 99 other suspects at the Police Headquarters in Akure over the weekend.
According to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the suspect was apprehended on August 26, 2025, after a concerned resident, Oluwafemi Oladipupo, alerted authorities to a suspicious drum spotted in front of his home on Paragon Street, Kajola, in Odigbo Local Government Area.
“The blue plastic drum, tied with a black rope, was being transported on a motorcycle by the suspect when it fell off. Upon inspection, the lifeless body of the victim was discovered inside,” CP Lawal said.
The body was later identified as that of the suspect’s younger brother. Police officers at Kajola Divisional Headquarters immediately arrested Amadi, who later confessed to the crime.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to killing his younger brother over a financial dispute,” the CP stated.
“He claimed that the deceased had unlawfully transferred ₦20,000 from his Ecobank account.”
Lawal confirmed that the body has been deposited at the morgue, and further investigation is ongoing.
The suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.
During the briefing, the Police Commissioner also gave an overview of the Command’s recent security operations across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas, which resulted in the arrest of 100 suspects involved in various criminal activities.
These crimes include murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug possession, theft, fraud, illegal arms possession and vehicle-related offenses.
Recovered items during these operations include locally made firearms, 30 rounds of AA cartridges, stolen vehicles and motorcycles, fake vehicle documents and license plates and asorted stolen goods like mobile phones, mattresses, jewelry, SIM cards and other personal items.
CP Lawal praised the efforts of officers and the support of local residents, which he described as instrumental in the successes recorded.
“These achievements reflect the dedication of our officers and the invaluable cooperation of the good people of Ondo State,” he said.
He credited the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for providing strategic direction and inspiring professionalism within the Force.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property across Ondo State, and we’ll continue to pursue criminals with renewed vigor,” Lawal added.
