A staff member of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Nnaji Nnamdi Kenneth, is facing disciplinary action after allegedly collecting ₦400,000 from a parent in exchange for a promised admission slot.
According to a press release by the university’s Acting Head of Information and Public Relations, Louis Njelita, Kenneth, who works in the Personnel Unit (Statistics) of the Registry Department, allegedly assured a woman that her son would be admitted into the Faculty of Medicine.
However, after the proposed admission was later shifted to Nursing Science and Kenneth stopped answering her calls, the woman reported the matter directly to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi.
Upon investigation, Kenneth reportedly admitted to the allegation in the presence of key university officials, including the Chief Safety Officer, Chief Legal Officer, and the Public Relations Officer.
“Admission is free,” the Acting VC reiterated, affirming the university’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and racketeering.
The case has been referred to the university’s disciplinary committee, with the institution emphasizing that this firm action is intended to serve as a deterrent to others involved in or considering similar misconduct.
