The Ogun State Government has announced the appointment of 1,200 political assistants as part of efforts to deepen grassroots engagement and enhance democratic participation across the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the appointments were in line with his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to all corners of Ogun State.

“This initiative is aimed at strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots level. It also reflects the Governor’s dedication to fulfilling his promise of carrying every ward along in the development process,” Akinmade said.

Each of the 236 political wards in the state will have five appointed assistants, who will serve as intermediaries between the state government and local communities.

Their primary roles include communicating the needs of their wards to the government and relaying government policies and initiatives back to the people.

According to the statement, the appointees will also help support the delivery of key developmental programs, gather feedback from residents and promote active citizen participation in governance.

“These assistants will act as change agents, working to ensure that governance is responsive and that the voices of the people are heard,” Akinmade added.
