In a significant step towards boosting agricultural productivity in Enugu State, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, on Monday, led the distribution of modern farm equipment to local farmers at the Council Secretariat.

DAILY GAZETTE reports that the initiative is a continuation of the agricultural empowerment programme launched last month at Okpara Square by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, aimed at transforming the state into a hub of agribusiness and food sufficiency.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hon. Ogbodo expressed deep appreciation to Governor Mbah for placing agriculture at the heart of his administration’s economic recovery plan.

He noted that the Governor’s forward-thinking policies were already yielding tangible benefits at the grassroots level.

“What we are witnessing today is a direct impact of Governor Mbah’s commitment to reviving agriculture in Enugu State. By equipping our farmers with the necessary tools, we are not only ensuring food security but also empowering our people economically,” Ogbodo said.

The Council Chairman urged the beneficiaries to use the equipment judiciously and warned against diverting or selling the items.

He emphasized that the success of the Governor’s agricultural roadmap depends largely on the willingness of farmers to embrace innovation and productivity.

“This is not just about giving out tools, it’s about planting the seeds of self-reliance and sustainability. Let us make the Governor proud by putting these resources to the best use,” he added.

The distribution saw hundreds of farmers receive various agricultural tools and machinery, including motorized sprayers, seeders, hoes, irrigation kits and fertilizers.

Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it would greatly reduce the burden of manual labor and improve their yields.

Governor Mbah’s agricultural vision focuses on transforming Enugu State from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one, with agriculture and agribusiness at the core.

Through partnerships, technology integration, and strategic investments, the administration aims to make the state a net exporter of food and agricultural products.
