Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Tuesday joined religious leaders, members of the Catholic faithful, and a large crowd of mourners in Nsukka to bid farewell to the late Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, Most Rev. Francis Emmanuel Ogbonna Okobo.

In a heartfelt tribute shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @PNMbah, the Governor described Bishop Okobo as “a great shepherd” who devoted his life entirely to the service of God and humanity.

Reflecting on the late bishop’s decades-long ministry, Governor Mbah noted that Bishop Okobo exemplified humility, grace, and unwavering faith.

“He built not only churches and schools, but communities anchored in compassion, service, and learning,” Mbah said.

“Bishop Okobo was far more than a religious leader, he was a mentor, a father figure, and a unifier. He uplifted the poor, inspired the youth, and consoled the grieving.”

“Even in retirement, his dedication to prayer and intercession never waned,” the Governor added.

“His life was a living sermon, his example a guide, and his presence a blessing.”

Governor Mbah also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the values the late bishop stood for.

“On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I pledge to sustain his legacy through continued investment in education, healthcare, and human dignity, principles he held close throughout his life.”

Offering words of comfort to the Okobo family and the Diocese of Nsukka, Mbah assured them that the state shares in their grief and pride.

“His legacy of faith, sacrifice, and service will always be remembered as a source of inspiration for generations to come,” he said.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the Governor concluded.
