The bodies of eight missing policemen have been recovered following last Friday’s deadly ambush on security operatives at Agu Centre, along the Katsina-Ala/Ukum border in Benue State.
The ambush targeted a joint security team comprising personnel from Operation Zenda, the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
Initial reports confirmed the deaths of two policemen and one BSCPG operative, with eight police officers reported missing.
On Monday, the Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Dr. Justine Shaku, confirmed that the remains of the missing officers had been found.
“This brings the number of officers killed to 11 — 10 policemen and one BSCPG operative,” Dr. Shaku told journalists.
He added that Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, was present at the scene to coordinate the security response.
“The atmosphere is still tense and unfriendly, but we are on top of the situation,” he assured.
Spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, also confirmed the recovery of the officers’ corpses.
Meanwhile, Commander of the BSCPG, Capt. Ayuma Ajobi (rtd), said the outfit lost one operative in the attack, as well as two motorcycles.
