The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended Bishop Ndibueze Onyagoziri Okorie, General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, over allegations of carrying out a “marathon sex” ritual with a 22-year-old woman battling sickle cell anemia.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed that the cleric was taken into custody on Wednesday, October 1, and is currently being held at the command headquarters in Abakaliki.
“Yes, the Bishop is with us here at the police headquarters, Abakaliki. I don’t have any other information, it is under investigation. On Wednesday 1st October, he was arrested by our men and brought to the state police command over the act,” Ukandu said.
The matter came to light after a viral video appeared online in which the alleged victim gave a detailed account of her experience.
She said she moved into the bishop’s residence after her family reached an understanding with him, believing she would receive divine healing for her condition.
According to her, the arrangement did not produce the promised results, as her health grew worse. She claimed the bishop later told her that “seven days of sexual intercourse with him would miraculously change her genotype from SS to AA.”
She explained that desperation drove her to comply, especially after the loss of three of her siblings to the same illness.
“After the seven-day sexual intercourse with the general overseer, my health issues became compounded and I raised the alarm and informed my sister about it,” she lamented.
The young woman further alleged that when she attempted to leave, her elder sister urged her to return home since the so-called treatment had failed.
However, she said Bishop Okorie “threatened to leak their nude pictures if she attempted to leave him.”
Her fears later became reality when nude photographs of her and the cleric began circulating on social media, triggering widespread criticism.
In response to the accusations, Bishop Okorie strongly denied having any sexual encounter with the victim.
He maintained his innocence, claiming his phone had been stolen and that “those who took it used Artificial Intelligence to manipulate and publish the alleged nude images.”
Police say investigations are ongoing.
