The Federal Government has refuted claims circulating online and in some newspapers suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

In a statement released Thursday in Abuja, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, categorically dismissed the reports as false, misleading, and unauthorized.

“At no point did the Ministry issue or approve any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer a prerequisite for admission,” the Minister said.

The clarification came via a press release signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the legally mandated body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and managing admissions into all Nigerian tertiary institutions.

“The current JAMB-led admission process is fully operational. Any contrary claims should be completely disregarded.”

He added that the Ministry is in full collaboration with JAMB and other education stakeholders to ensure transparency, fairness, and integrity in the nation’s admission process.

The Ministry also cautioned media outlets, bloggers, and online publishers against spreading unverified information, emphasizing the importance of fact-checking with official sources to avoid confusion in the education sector.

“The Ministry remains committed to protecting the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that all admissions are guided strictly by merit and due process,” the statement read.

Prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions were advised to rely solely on the official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for credible information regarding admission policies.

“There has been no change in JAMB’s role. It remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education system,” the Ministry concluded.
