The Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into claims of certificate and result racketeering at the institution.
The announcement came as the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) began a two‑week warning strike on Tuesday.
ASUP’s chairman, Dr Michael Ohana, said the alleged racketeering had tarnished the school’s reputation and disrupted academic activities.
In response, the Governing Council, through its Chairman Hon. Paul Adingwupu, called the strike a deliberate attempt to hinder investigations and accused the union leadership of being backed by interests opposed to reform.
The Council stated that the probe, which is also being supported by the State House of Assembly and initiated via the office of the Deputy Governor, covers alleged misconduct involving various senior officers, including the Rector and Registrar.
The union, meanwhile, says the institution’s integrity has been harmed and demands the release of detailed findings and action.
“Our mandate is to protect the institution and restore its integrity,” the Council said, while urging the public and the State Government to disregard what it described as “political posturing” by some parties.
