Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep grief over the passing of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Town Division, describing her death as a monumental loss to the Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State.

Ngbaronye reportedly passed away on Friday following complications from a surgical operation at the Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.

In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu commiserated with the Police Service Commission, the Lagos State Police Command, the deceased’s family, friends, and the entire Festac community.

“The death of the Divisional Police Officer of Festac Town Division, Lagos State, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who reportedly passed away on Friday following complications from surgery at a private hospital in Lagos, is a colossal and irreplaceable loss,” the governor said.

He described the late officer as a highly professional and dutiful policewoman who demonstrated passion, courage, and integrity throughout her career.

“Late CSP Ngbaronye was a dedicated, committed and professional police officer who devoted her life to the service of the Nigeria Police Force,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

“She served passionately, and her service record across various assignments reflected integrity, diligence, dedication, and commitment to duty.”

The governor extended his condolences to her family, associates, and colleagues, praying for divine comfort and strength during their period of grief.

“On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Lagos State, I express my heartfelt condolences to the late CSP Ngbaronye’s family, friends, associates, the Lagos Police Command, and the Police Service Commission,” he said.

“I pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant CSP Matilda Ngbaronye eternal rest.”

Confirming her passing on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the deceased as a disciplined and upright officer whose leadership deepened trust between the police and the Festac community.

Adebisi added that details of her burial arrangements would be announced later.
