Military and security officials have confirmed that authorities in Benin have taken into custody roughly a dozen soldiers linked to an attempted coup in the country.

Among those arrested are individuals identified as key organisers of the failed operation, according to information shared with AFP on Sunday.

One military source reported that 13 people had been arrested, while another clarified that all but one of the detainees were active-duty soldiers, with the remaining suspect being a former member of the armed forces.
