Renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has denied reports claiming that she was appointed a visiting professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The denial was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by her communications team and signed by Omawumi Ogbe, who said no such offer was made to the writer.
According to the statement, Adichie has neither received an appointment nor engaged in any discussions with UNN regarding a visiting professorship, describing the reports as false and misleading.
The statement clarified that claims suggesting official appointment letters were signed and dated December 18, 2025, were inaccurate.
While noting that UNN occupies a special place in Adichie’s life as the institution where she grew up and where her parents served as Registrar and Professor respectively, the statement expressed disappointment that such a claim was circulated without proper verification.
Her team urged the public and media organisations to disregard the reports and requested outlets carrying the story to take it down to prevent further spread of misinformation.
Earlier, UNN had announced that it appointed Adichie alongside African Development Bank executive, Prof. Kevin Urama, and University of Chicago scholar, Prof. James Robinson, as visiting professors.
The university said the appointments, approved by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Ortuanya and conveyed through letters dated December 18, 2025, were aimed at repositioning the institution on the global academic stage.
