The Peoples Democratic Party has said it is repositioned to reclaim power at the national level, following a high-level meeting between its leadership and former Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting on Tuesday evening, PDP National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said Sambo reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged continued support, while offering strategic advice on party unity, legality and electoral competitiveness ahead of future elections.

Turaki disclosed that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to the South and is open to all qualified aspirants from the region, including former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sambo served as vice president during Jonathan’s administration.

Responding to questions on growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race, Turaki said the PDP has deliberately kept the process open to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.

According to him, while the party has decided on a southern presidential candidate, it is yet to determine who will eventually emerge as its flagbearer.

He said every PDP member from southern Nigeria, or of southern extraction, is eligible to contest, stressing that the selection process will be transparent, equitable and designed to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.

The PDP chairman added that the party is focused on strengthening internal cohesion and presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
