Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election, declaring that all aspirants within the party have agreed to support his second-term ambition.

Ganduje gave the assurance in Kano on Monday while formally welcoming Yusuf back into the APC, describing the governor’s return as a major boost for the party in the state.

“You will win your second term in 2027. We have spoken with all aspirants, and they have agreed to support you,” Ganduje said.

Governor Yusuf officially rejoined the APC on Monday, January 26, 2026, after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party last week.

He had previously been a member of the APC between 2014 and 2018 before moving to other political platforms.

In his resignation letter to the chairman of the NNPP in Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Gwale Local Government Area, effective January 23, 2026, Yusuf cited persistent internal crises and the need to protect the broader interests of the people as reasons for leaving the party.

Describing Yusuf’s return as a homecoming, Ganduje noted that the governor was part of the APC during its formative years but left due to political differences.

“This is a memorable and historic occasion. Your Excellency, you are welcome back home to the APC,” he said.

The former Kano governor further described Yusuf as a progressive politician whose leadership style aligns with the ideology of the APC, adding that his return strengthens the party’s political direction in the state.

“We know you as a progressive politician by your perception, utterances, and disposition. APC is complete with you,” Ganduje stated.

He also declared Yusuf as the leader of the APC in Kano State, explaining that party tradition recognises serving governors as leaders of the party in their respective states.

“In APC, all serving governors are leaders of the party in their states. Therefore, you are the leader of the APC in Kano State,” he said.

Ganduje assured the governor of equal treatment within the party and expressed confidence that the APC would record sweeping victories in future elections, including the 2027 presidential poll.

“As you are coming in, we assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will also win in 2027. APC will stand firmly with you,” he added.

The defection of Governor Yusuf to the APC has triggered significant political realignments in Kano State, with 22 state lawmakers, eight members of the House of Representatives, all 44 local government chairmen, and several party members defecting alongside him.
