King Charles III has applauded the achievements and contributions of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, describing them as a vital force shaping British society.

The monarch made the remarks during a state banquet at Windsor Castle, hosted in honour of Bola Tinubu as part of his two-day official visit to the UK.

King Charles highlighted the growing influence of Nigerians across various sectors, noting their excellence in business, technology, academia, law, science, sports, literature, and the arts.

“We in the United Kingdom are blessed that so many people of Nigerian heritage… are now at the heart of British life,” he said.

Reflecting on his engagements with the Nigerian community, the King praised what he described as “quiet heroes” making meaningful contributions in schools, businesses, universities, and the National Health Service.

He also shared a light-hearted moment about hosting members of the Nigerian diaspora at a recent gathering at St. James’s Palace, joking about the ever-spirited debate over the best jollof rice.

“I was assured it was the best — Nigerian, of course… or perhaps Ghanaian or Senegalese. Diplomatically, I cannot remember,” he quipped.

The monarch further acknowledged the cultural impact of Nigerians, citing the global rise of Afrobeats, Nollywood’s influence, and the presence of Nigerian talents in top-tier sports and professional fields across the UK.

Raising a toast at the banquet, he concluded with a popular Nigerian phrase:

“Naija no dey carry last.”

President Tinubu’s visit, which began with full military honours, includes high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, and deepening cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
