Fresh indications of a looming political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections emerged on Thursday as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso hosted Rauf Aregbesola at his Abuja residence.

Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party and founder of the Kwankwasiyya movement, confirmed the private meeting but did not disclose details of their discussions.

“It was a pleasure to receive my dear friend, His Excellency Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the ADC, this evening at my residence in Abuja,” he stated.

The high-level engagement comes amid growing signals that the Kwankwasiyya movement is exploring strategic alliances with the African Democratic Congress and the National Democratic Congress as part of a broader coalition-building effort.

Political watchers say the meeting underscores Kwankwaso’s renewed push to expand his influence beyond his northern stronghold, especially in the face of reported internal tensions within the NNPP and uncertainty over his next political move.

Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State and ex-minister of interior, is widely regarded as a key bridge to the South-West political bloc.

His current role as ADC’s national secretary has further fueled speculation that the party may be central to emerging coalition talks.

Though both leaders remained tight-lipped on specifics, analysts believe the timing of the meeting is strategic and may signal the early stages of structured negotiations capable of reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
