As Nigeria marks the 2025 Children’s Day, the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state, Hon. John Ogbodo, has joined millions of others across the nation in celebrating children, describing them as the “priceless treasures and future leaders of our great nation.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, Hon. Ogbodo commended the resilience, intelligence, and potential of Nigerian children, particularly those in Nkanu West LGA, stressing that the council under his leadership remains fully committed to investing in their education, health, and overall well-being.
“Our children are our tomorrow. They deserve the best we can offer, from quality education to safe environments where they can dream, learn, and grow without fear,” he said.
He noted that in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision, his administration has made the welfare of children a top priority, with several ongoing projects including the construction of smart schools, provision of free learning materials, scholarships for indigent pupils, and healthcare outreach programs in schools.
“Through our Smart School initiative and free school meal programme, we are not only improving education but also ensuring that no child is left behind regardless of their background. Every child in Nkanu West must have access to quality education,” he added.
Hon. Ogbodo used the occasion to also encourage parents, guardians, and teachers to continue playing positive roles in shaping the character and future of the younger generation, reminding them that the responsibility of nation-building begins at home and in the classroom.
He also took time to visit selected primary schools in the council area, where he interacted with pupils, distributed educational materials, and promised to scale up child-focused interventions in the coming months.
“On this special day, I reaffirm my administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of every child in Nkanu West. We are building a future where children are safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential,” Hon. Ogbodo said.
