President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Falcons following their thrilling 2–1 semi-final defeat of South Africa in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The win secured Nigeria’s place in the final and opened the door for a record-extending 10th WAFCON crown.
Released shortly after Tuesday’s match, President Tinubu’s statement described the Falcons’ performance as “well deserved” and “nothing short of superlative.”
He emphasized the pride they’ve brought to the nation and urged them to continue until the trophy is secured.
“Well deserved! Congratulations to our Super Falcons! Your incredible #WAFCON2025 semi-finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative.”
“It was a magnificent display of grit, talent, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. You have made the nation proud. Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title. Nigerians worldwide are rooting for you. We are waiting to receive the cup.”
Nigeria secured the win thanks to a late goal from defender Michelle Alozie.
With the score tied at 1–1, Alozie’s long-range effort caught the South African defence off guard and nestled in the net in the final moments of the match.
The Super Falcons now await the winner of the semi-final between Morocco and Ghana, aiming to clinch a historic tenth WAFCON trophy.
