Nigeria’s Super Falcons staged a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 and clinch the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on Saturday.
The Moroccans started strong, with Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Just 12 minutes later, Sanaâ Mssoudy doubled their lead, giving the Atlas Lionesses a comfortable 2–0 advantage going into halftime.
But the Falcons returned from the break with renewed determination. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty in the 64th minute to spark Nigeria’s resurgence.
Folashade Florence Ijamilusi struck the equaliser just seven minutes later, in the 71st minute.
The turnaround was completed in dramatic fashion when Jennifer Echegini netted the decisive goal in the 88th minute, silencing the home crowd and crowning Nigeria champions.
Statistically, Nigeria edged the contest, registering 14 total shots to Morocco’s 10, including five on target.
The Falcons enjoyed 55% of possession, completed 280 passes at a 69% accuracy rate, and won five corners compared to Morocco’s three.
Despite the intense tempo, the match remained disciplined-no yellow or red cards were issued. Nigeria committed seven fouls, while Morocco conceded 12.
