The lawmaker representing Enugu East Rural Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Raymond Ugwu, has commended Prof. Paul Nnamchi, member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for successfully facilitating the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture at Ako-Nike, Enugu State.
Hon. Ugwu, who also chairs the House Committee on Youths, Sports and Security Matters, described the development as a major milestone for the people of Enugu and the South East region at large.
In a statement made available to DAILY GAZETTE on Wednesday, Ugwu congratulated Prof. Nnamchi for his legislative effort and foresight in sponsoring the bill that has now been signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I sincerely congratulate Prof. Paul Nnamchi for this landmark achievement. This university will not only promote agricultural innovation and research but will also open more doors to tertiary education for our youths while strengthening federal presence in Enugu State,” Ugwu stated.
The bill establishing the university was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly with broad support and received presidential assent on Tuesday, marking a major win for the region’s educational and agricultural development.
DAILY GAZETTE had earlier reported that the university aims to serve as a hub for agricultural research and innovation, fostering sustainable development and food security.
Stakeholders across the education and agriculture sectors have applauded the move, which they believe will have far-reaching benefits for farmers, researchers, students, and the local economy.
With the President’s assent, the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies are expected to commence immediate implementation processes for the take-off of the institution.
