The Ghanaian government has officially released the names of the eight individuals who lost their lives in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.
The crash involved a Z-9 helicopter operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, which lost contact while en route from Accra to Obuasi, a key gold-mining town in the southern part of the country. The passengers were reportedly on an official assignment when the aircraft went down.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the fatal incident and listed the identities of all the deceased.
Victims of the Crash:
1. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
3. Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; former Minister for Food and Agriculture
4. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
5. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
6. Peter Baafemi Anala – Squadron Leader
7. Manaen Twum Ampadu – Flying Officer
8. Ernest Addo – Sergeant
Following the tragic incident, President John Mahama declared the crash a national tragedy and immediately suspended all official government activities in mourning.
He also ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the victims.
