The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that its result checker portal is currently unavailable due to unexpected technical issues.

In a notice posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the council acknowledged the disruption and assured candidates that the issue was being addressed with urgency.

“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues,” the statement read.

“However, the council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours.”

The announcement comes just days after WAEC officially released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Monday, August 4.

Initially, candidates were able to access their results through the WAEC Direct portal and via SMS. However, since the technical failure, many have been unable to check their results online.

WAEC is appealing to candidates, parents and other stakeholders to remain patient while efforts to restore access is ongoing.

The council emphasized that all necessary technical teams are actively working to bring the system back online within 24 hours.

Despite the temporary setback, WAEC reassured candidates that no results have been lost or compromised.

“We understand the importance of this moment for our candidates and are doing everything possible to restore full service,” the council noted.

The council also urged candidates not to fall victim to unofficial websites or individuals claiming to provide alternative access to WAEC results.

It advised the public to rely only on WAEC’s verified social media pages for updates and information during this period.
