The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has made a passionate appeal to members of the church for substantial financial support, seeking contributions totaling over ₦10 billion to support ongoing infrastructure expansion at the church’s Redemption City headquarters.
Speaking during the 73rd annual RCCG convention on Saturday, Adeboye outlined urgent development needs and called on well-placed members to step forward.
In a video that has since gone viral, he specifically appealed for at least 10 members to donate ₦1 billion each, and another 100 members to contribute ₦100 million each.
“I need at least 10 of my children who can give me at least one billion naira each, and I need 100 of my children who can give me a hundred million naira each,” he said.
He explained that the donations would go toward expanding several key facilities that have been outgrown due to the rapid growth of the church.
“For example, if you look at the choir’s altar, it was built to take 10,000 of them, but they have outgrown the altar. Some of them are sitting on the floor and many times, the camera does not cover them,” he noted.
“We have to enlarge the altar before December. Also, our water system that has served us for over 20 years needs upgrading. We will need to improve our power supply as we expand our dormitories and sewage systems. We have a lot of projects to complete before December,” Adeboye said.
The fundraising appeal has sparked mixed reactions, with many applauding the transparency in the church’s development goals, while others have raised concerns over the magnitude of the request in the current economic climate.
This call for donations follows recent headlines in which Adeboye reportedly described a vision concerning his passing.
DAILY GAZETTE had reported that the cleric revealed he expects to die peacefully on a Sunday, shortly after attending service and enjoying his favorite meal, pounded yam.
