Guinness World Records has officially confirmed that chef Hilda Baci, in collaboration with Gino Nigeria, has achieved a record‑breaking service of 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) of Nigerian‑style jollof rice.
The event took place last Friday in Lagos.
The Akwa Ibom‑born chef, whose full name is Hilda Bassey, completed this monumental attempt during an eight‑hour open cooking session held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.
The effort drew hundreds of guests and live performances in a festive atmosphere.
The ingredients used in the dish were disclosed in full compliance with Guinness rules. Baci shared that she used 4,000 kg of washed basmati rice (making up at least 80% of the total weight as required), 164 kg of fresh goat meat, 220 kg of Gino Asun & Peppered Chicken Cubes, and 600 kg of her signature jollof pepper mix.
“It took nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork,” she said, adding that 1,200 kg of gas was used to produce 16,600 plates of rice “served with joy, love and community.”
She also reflected on the challenge:
“I didn’t realise it would be this hard — it has been a real challenge. It took a lot of hard work, but achieving the record is truly satisfying. This record also belongs to the people of Nigeria, because they all contributed to its success.”
Strict rules governed the food distribution to ensure none went to waste.
The spectacle included a large pot in which chefs and assistants stirred the jollof while others added water, maintaining momentum throughout.
Hilda Baci’s previous world record in May 2023, cooking continuously for 93 hours and 11 minutes, had already earned her widespread acclaim in Nigeria and beyond.
