A new chapter in digital education has opened in Ewatto, a rural community in Esan South Local Government Area of Edo State, with the launch of Equity Learning Academy (ELA) — Nigeria’s first tuition-free digital education academy.
The academy, designed to serve vulnerable children, offers a fully tech-driven learning environment using GradeX, a school management platform that automates key aspects of education.
The system handles everything from digital attendance and real-time assessments to personalised learning and meal distribution.
Parents also receive daily updates about their children’s academic progress via the platform.
Speaking at the launch, the academy’s Founder, Dr. Friday Airhia, and Co-founder, Prof. Bosede Airhia, emphasized that ELA aims to match and even surpass, the standards of top private schools in Nigeria.
“We are giving children in underserved communities access to a world-class digital ecosystem. Every pupil, from Kindergarten 1 to Basic 1, receives a free laptop, and lessons are customised to suit each child’s learning speed using AI-powered tools,” said Dr. Airhia.
The official launch was presided over by the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, who commended the initiative and highlighted its alignment with the state’s goal of improving access to quality education.
