Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one place to 45th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Thursday after a 1‑1 draw with South Africa in their World Cup qualifier.
The team had earlier defeated Rwanda 1‑0 in their previous match but couldn’t build on that momentum in Bloemfontein.
On the continental stage, Nigeria now ranks sixth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Côte d’Ivoire overtook Nigeria to claim 44th spot globally, while Tunisia moved up three places to 49th.
Globally, Spain has reclaimed the top spot following their EURO 2024 win, pushing down Argentina, which fell to third. France sits second, England fourth and Portugal joins the top five, surpassing Brazil.
Germany dropped three places to 12th after an upset loss to Slovakia, while Slovakia jumped 10 spots to 42nd.
