A letter issued in 2023 by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) appears to contradict recent claims that the institution has no academic record of Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche (Geoffrey) Nnaji.
The document, dated December 21, 2023, and signed by the University’s Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Celine Ngozi Nnebedum, confirms that Nnaji was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry and graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in the same field, earning a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
Referenced as RUN/SRIRV.1, the letter was addressed to Samuel Ogundipe of People’s Gazette and includes Nnaji’s registration number, 1981/30725, the same number linked to the ongoing certificate authenticity debate.
DAILY GAZETTE reports that the said letter was printed on official letterhead and copied to the Registrar’s Correspondence Unit, bearing UNN’s full contact details and website.
This letter directly contradicts reports circulated earlier this week, alleging that UNN had no records of the minister’s graduation.
As of the time of reporting, efforts by DAILY GAZETTE to secure an official explanation from the university regarding the contradictory documentation were still ongoing.
Minister Nnaji has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
However, there are calls for an independent verification of both letters to establish the truth.
