Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a school-free day in celebration of teachers across the state.

The announcement was made on Monday in Awka by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who explained that the declaration is in recognition of the vital role teachers play in the state’s education sector.

“Since the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, His Excellency, Governor Soludo, has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in Anambra,” the commissioner stated.

She also announced that the Solution Parents League will hold a mega endorsement march in appreciation of Governor Soludo’s transformative efforts in education.

Members of the Association of Private School Owners are expected to join the march.

“All teachers, parents, and school proprietors/proprietresses are to gather at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka by 8:00 a.m. prompt to honour the governor for his strides in the education sector,” she added.

Meanwhile, teachers across Nigeria used the occasion of World Teachers’ Day to renew calls for improved welfare, enhanced working conditions, and full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.

At events held nationwide on Sunday, various teachers’ unions and education advocates decried the slow progress in policy implementation, low remuneration, and the lack of adequate teaching resources.

They urged both federal and state governments to prioritise the welfare of teachers and fulfil promises made to the sector.
