An officer of the Nigeria Police Force has been detained after a viral video showed him firing at the tyre of a moving vehicle near Toscana Hotel, along Okpanam Road in Asaba, Delta State.
The incident took place on Tuesday night and quickly gained public attention after footage of the shooting was circulated on social media platforms.
In the video, the officer was seen aiming and shooting at the car as it attempted to speed away.
The action has drawn widespread criticism, with many condemning it as dangerous and a breach of standard firearm protocols.
Security experts and civil rights advocates have described the officer’s behaviour as reckless and unjustifiable, especially in a populated area.
Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the officer involved has been identified and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The Delta State Police Command assured the public that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.
