The Federal Government has introduced a nationwide online learning programme aimed at bridging the gap created by the country’s shortage of more than 1.2 million teachers across the education sector.
The initiative, Inspire Live(s)! Online Real-Time Classes, is designed to expand access to quality teaching for primary and secondary school pupils, ensuring continuous learning regardless of location or availability of teachers.
In a statement on Tuesday, Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, said the programme uses technology to stream live, interactive lessons directly to learners.
She noted that the initiative “democratises access to quality education and ensures no child is excluded.”
According to Education Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa, full implementation is already in progress, with plans underway to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3.
While the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) segments are ready to begin, the rollout for primary schools is still pending.
The programme is open to both public and private schools nationwide.
The Inspire platform currently offers daily live classes for JSS 1, JSS 2, and SS 2 students, streamed Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Subjects offered for JSS classes include;
Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies.
SSS subjects:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
Boriowo added that lessons are delivered by certified master teachers using the Cisco Webex platform.
To ensure smooth implementation across states, the Ministry has directed all Commissioners of Education to appoint a State Focal Officer for the programme, disseminate programme details to all school principals, ensure selected schools have basic ICT tools and internet access and supervise the registration of participating schools, which must be carried out by principals via Inspire support channels.
