Joshua Temitope Oladepo, a final-year student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has alleged that the university deliberately removed his name from the 2025 graduation list as punishment for participating in a protest against former FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during his visit to the campus on June 5, 2025.

Oladepo told newsmen that when he tried to log into the university’s convocation portal on Thursday evening, he was shocked to find that his name had been omitted from the list of graduating students.

“I was one of the students arrested and detained when Wike came to our campus and we resisted. That was on June 5th, 2025,” he said.

He added, “This evening, I tried to log into my convocation portal but I was told that my name has been excluded from the graduation list. This wasn’t so initially.”

“As a matter of fact, I was able to make payments for the convocation, the sum of N40,000. This act can be linked to our resistance against the coming of Wike.”

A screenshot from the OAU Convocation Portal, reviewed by DAILY GAZETTE, displayed the message: “Your name is not yet on the 2025 Convocation list. Please send email to exams_records@oauife.edu.ng or visit the Exams and Records Office.”

Documents also confirm that Oladepo successfully paid his convocation fee.

His Remita payment receipt shows a transaction of N40,000 made on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with RRR: 171379218766.

Further findings indicate that OAU had issued Oladepo an official Notification of Results dated October 3, 2025.

The document, signed by Y.O. Akinyele (Mrs.), Deputy Registrar of the Examinations and Records Division, certified that he had completed his academic programme in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.

“This is to certify that OLADEPO Joshua Temitope was a student in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.”

“The candidate successfully completed an academic programme and was awarded the degree of B.Sc Political Science with the grade of Second Class Honours (Upper Division), as approved by the University Senate, on 18th September, 2025.”

“His/Her certificate is being prepared and will soon be ready for collection. Please extend to the candidate all assistance that the holder of a degree certificate may require,” the Deputy Registrar stated.

She added, “We hope you find this information sufficient for you to make a decision on the candidate’s application. However, if you require additional information regarding his/her academic records in the University, or have questions and/or concerns, please contact the Registrar using the following email address: registramosulfe.edu.ng.”

Despite having a verified result and completing all clearance steps, Oladepo maintains that his sudden exclusion from the convocation list is a coordinated retaliation against students who opposed Wike’s visit earlier this year.

The protest had led to multiple arrests, including his own.
