Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three male suspects in connection with the theft and vandalisation of a commercial tricycle in the Trans-Ekulu area of the state.

The suspects were arrested at about 5pm on January 20, 2026, by officers attached to the Trans-Ekulu Police Division, working in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.

The arrest followed credible intelligence that the suspects were attempting to sell a stolen Bajaj tricycle at Ugbodogwu, Trans-Ekulu.

The stolen tricycle, painted yellow and black, was recovered from the suspects, identified as Chuka Nwanze, 23; Arinze Anyansi, 24; and Miracle Anyadiegwu, 24.

A statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said preliminary investigations revealed that the tricycle, with Bauchi registration number NNG 445 WZ, was stolen from where it was parked in the Obiagu area of Enugu on the night of January 19, 2026.

According to the police, the suspects confessed during interrogation that they vandalised the tricycle after stealing it and sold off its three tyres.

They were reportedly in the process of disposing of the remaining parts when they were apprehended by the police.

SP Ndukwe disclosed that discreet investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected tricycle theft syndicate and recover additional exhibits linked to the crime.

He added that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mamman Bitrus Giwa has reiterated the need for vehicle owners to remain vigilant.

He advised motorists to install basic security features on their vehicles to deter theft and assist in easy identification and recovery in the event of a crime.
