SP Daniel Ndukwe,
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four suspects and recovered a trailer load of vandalised bridge components as well as cut-off oil and gas pipes in separate operations across the state.
The operations, carried out by the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics Squad, were confirmed in a statement made available to DAILY GAZETTE on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to the statement, the first arrest was made on February 6, 2026, at about 6:45 pm along the Sagem/Amaechi–Idodo axis of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, where operatives intercepted a white MAN Diesel 40-foot trailer conveying vandalised iron bridge parts.
Three suspects — Agbo Okwudili, 45; Emmanuel Onyemachi, 18; and Evans Ovie Monday, 29 — were arrested in connection with the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects and their accomplices, who are currently at large, allegedly vandalised the bridge components at Eziama Bridge in Amechi-Idodo, Nkanu East Local Government Area.
In a separate operation the same day at about 11:56 pm., SWAT operatives on patrol along Owoh/Ubahu Road in Nkanu East arrested another suspect, Orjiakor Hyacinth, 50, who was reportedly caught assembling vandalised carbon steel oil and gas pipes. Several pieces of the pipes and a gas cylinder were recovered from him.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the incidents, adding that those arrested will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift response, reaffirming the command’s determination to protect lives and critical infrastructure across the state.
He also warned individuals involved in vandalism to desist from such acts, stressing that the police would continue to track down and prosecute offenders whose activities pose serious social and economic risks.
