A Chief Narcotic Agent of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Sadiq Bako Mujahid, has died following a violent raid on a notorious drug enclave in Ama Hausa, Bonny Island, Rivers State.

Six suspects were apprehended during the operation, and a large quantity of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol, was seized.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Mujahid sustained fatal head injuries after the gang leader, Genesis George Benson, mobilised armed hoodlums to attack the operatives during the raid on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Despite the assault, the NDLEA team successfully arrested all six targets, including Benson.

The other suspects taken into custody include ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

Mujahid was immediately rushed to Bonny Island General Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Reacting to the incident, NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the courage and resilience of the operatives who completed the mission despite the violent attack.

He described Mujahid as a disciplined and brave officer who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Marwa warned that any assault on NDLEA personnel would not go unpunished and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating illicit drugs across Nigeria.

“Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” he said, adding that the fight against drug trafficking will continue unabated.

The Ama Hausa area has long been recognised as a hub for criminal and drug-related activities, making the operation a strategic step in the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to dismantle organised drug networks in the country.
