Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved a request by a private individual to pay the ₦25,000 fine imposed on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over an alleged parking violation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The minister directed the volunteer, Mr. Nnaemeka Ikerionwu, to liaise with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for guidance on the payment process.
In a post on his X account, Keyamo instructed Ikerionwu to meet with FAAN’s Director of Commercial and Business Development, who would provide details on how the payment should be made.
The development follows Keyamo’s earlier directive that Obi should apologise to airport officials and pay a ₦25,000 fine after an internal investigation concluded that his vehicle was improperly parked in a restricted area at the airport.
According to the minister, CCTV footage reviewed during the investigation showed that Obi’s vehicle was left unattended after he was dropped off by a police driver at the domestic terminal on July 4, 2026, prompting airport officials to clamp its tyres in line with airport regulations.
Responding to the offer to settle the fine, Keyamo said the payment could be processed through FAAN, while also criticising Obi over his earlier claim that he was unfairly targeted by airport authorities.
The minister, however, did not state whether his previous demand that the former Anambra State governor issue a public apology to airport officials remained in effect or had been withdrawn.
