The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the introduction of Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering as undergraduate programmes at Baze University, Abuja, beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 16, 2026, signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the commission, Dr Ayuba Mohammed.

The letter authorises the university to offer both programmes on a full-time basis at its main campus in Abuja.

According to the NUC, the approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts to assess the availability of the required academic personnel, facilities and other resources for the proposed courses.

The exercise also included an inspection of the university’s Aviation School.

The commission’s Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, subsequently approved the programmes after reviewing the panel’s report.

Under the approved arrangement, Aviation Management will be domiciled in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be offered by the Faculty of Engineering.

The introduction of the programmes is expected to broaden the university’s academic offerings in aviation, engineering, technological innovation and aerospace development.

The approval also aligns with the university’s ongoing investment in aviation education, including the development of an Aviation School on a site spanning more than 88 hectares in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.

The facility, which is reportedly at an advanced stage of development, is part of the university’s efforts to expand specialised aviation education and training.

Although the newly approved undergraduate programmes will be conducted at Baze University’s main campus in Abuja, the Aviation School in Bwari remains a separate but complementary project designed to strengthen the institution’s capacity for aviation-related education.

The university is expected to commence the two programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.
