The PDP is facing a wave of resignations following the departure of former Imo State Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, and over 20 key members in Imo State, including a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and zonal officers.

While the exact cause of the crisis remains unclear, speculation suggests a power struggle between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, could be a contributing factor.

Sources told Daily Gazette that Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe, in light of recent events, may be considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to support his kinsman, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Peter Obi Demands Govt Action Over Attacks On Enugu Community

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent attack on Ugwujoro in Nimbo Community, Enugu State, by suspected killer herdsmen.

Obi emphasized the urgent need for the government to demonstrate tangible commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.

Advertorial

Expressing deep concern, Obi highlighted the distressing pattern of attacks in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, an area he closely associates with and supports.

He recalled previous instances of violence in the region, including the tragic incident at Mater Amabilis Secondary School in Adani, where he intervened to rebuild a hostel after it was razed by fire.

Refusing to tolerate further bloodshed, Obi urged proactive measures from security agencies to prevent future occurrences and safeguard the nation’s agricultural productivity. He extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and called for collective efforts to overcome insecurity in Nigeria.

“I just read reports of yet another senseless killing of harmless and defenseless villagers in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu state over the weekend.

“I find the report very disturbing, especially recalling that these terror-mongers have continued to unleash terror on the people of Uzo-uwani over the years. Uzo Uwani is one of the areas I have closely related with and remained supportive to. I am pained by how these attacks have made the people of the area to live in constant fear of terror and death.”

“I recall that in 2015, a hostel of one of the best secondary schools in that area, Mater Amabilis, Adani was completely razed by fire, and the students were without a hostel.”

“When I read the reports, I quickly intervened, rebuilt the hostel and handed it over to the School Management by March 2016. A month after that, the people of Nimbo Community in the same Uzo Uwani were senselessly murdered, and this attracted national attention.

“I attended their funeral alongside the former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. I helped in consoling and rehabilitating the victims. My heart, again, goes out to the people of Uzo Uwani who have continued to experience these incessant attacks.”

“We must not allow further spilling of the blood of innocent Nigerians under any guise. Enough must now be enough. The government should show visible commitment to the security of lives and property of the Nigerian people.

“Uzo Uwani local government area of Enugu state is the main agricultural bed of the state and the continued insecurity there will have far-reaching consequences on food production in the state.

“Security agencies should be proactive especially as this area has become prone to these attacks and take necessary actions to avert future occurrences.”

“I sincerely commiserate with the people of Uzo-uwani who lost their loved ones to this cruel attack and indeed all the many victims of insecurity in our nation.”

“May God Almighty grant eternal rest to the dead, grant quick recovery to the wounded and heal our land bleeding profusely from insecurity. We shall conquer !”

Former Chelsea Manager Elected President Of FC Porto

Andre Villas-Boas, the former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, has been elected as the new president of FC Porto, marking the end of Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa’s 42-year tenure.

In a historic election, Villas-Boas secured 21,489 votes, defeating his 86-year-old opponent, who had previously won 15 consecutive elections to lead ‘The Dragons’.

Advertorial

“This is a historic night for our club, showcasing its resilience and strength,” remarked Villas-Boas in a statement released by Porto.

Villas-Boas achieved remarkable success during his time as Porto’s manager, winning the domestic double and the Europa League in the 2010/11 season without losing a game.

His triumph in the Europa League, where Porto defeated Portuguese rivals Braga, made him the youngest coach ever to win a European club trophy at just 33 years old.

During his campaign, Villas-Boas pledged to appoint former Spanish international goalkeeper Andoni Zubizareta as sporting director and former Portuguese international defender Jorge Costa as head of the football department.

Meanwhile, Pinto da Costa extended the contract of the current head coach, Sergio Conceicao, earlier this week.

Under Pinto da Costa’s leadership, Porto has enjoyed unprecedented success, winning 23 league titles and two European trophies – the European Cup in 1987 and the Champions League in 2004.

However, this season has been challenging for the club, facing financial difficulties off the pitch and struggling to perform on it.

For Villas-Boas, this new role presents a fresh challenge after retiring from coaching, following a tumultuous tenure at Marseille in 2021.

Despite his early promise, particularly highlighted during his time at Porto, Villas-Boas faced setbacks at high-profile clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as during stints in Russia and China.

‘Stop The Blame Game, PDP Is Dangerously Sinking’ – Osita Okechukwu Fires Back At Wabara

Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has attributed the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the actions of its leaders.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, Okechukwu responded to Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, who had warned against attempts by the APC to establish a one-party state in Nigeria.

Advertorial

Wabara’s remarks coincided with the resignation of key figures from the PDP, including former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Chuka Odom.

Okechukwu argued that blaming the APC for the PDP’s woes was misplaced, pointing to the PDP leaders’ disregard for the party’s internal conventions, such as the presidential rotation between the north and south.

He highlighted instances of defections from the PDP to other parties, suggesting that the PDP’s internal issues were contributing to its decline rather than any external factors.

He criticized the PDP’s tendency to engage in blame games rather than addressing its internal challenges, urging the party to reflect on its failings and work towards reconciliation and adherence to democratic principles.

Okechukwu emphasized the need for the PDP to conduct a thorough self-examination and address the root causes of its recent setbacks, including the departures of prominent members like Obi and Kwankwaso.

He cautioned against ignoring the party’s internal divisions and called for genuine efforts to rebuild and strengthen the PDP from within.

“The blame game dished out to the APC by Senator Wabara and co who dug the grave of the PDP is misplaced in all materials particular”.

“as long as the nemesis of Wabara and Co’s deliberate crass breach of presidential rotation convention between north and south, albeit PDP’s Constitution; Obi’s Labour Party, Kwankwaso’s NNPP;

“And Wike’s Masquerade are alive and breathing, with open arms admitting defector-exits from PDP, there is no valid fear of one party state in Nigeria.”

“therefore PDP should earnestly introspect on how best to pick the pieces of the party that is dangerously sinking.”

“instead of careful introspection of its bleeding ailments and how to fix Obi and Kwankwaso’s exit and its troubled Wike’s Masquerade, plus imbibing the best tenets of internal democracy devoid of breach of the zoning convention, extant laws, planlessness and squandermania, the PDP most times arrogantly hauled unnecessary blame game on the APC.”

“My understanding from our elder statesman’s vituperation is that PDP may not even recover in August after the ward, LGA, and State congresses and national convention, when they failed ab initio to embark on careful introspection to examine the root causes of Obi and Kwankwaso’s exit, especially Wike’s Masquerade which led a party that boasted of 60 years uninterrupted reign to woeful failure in 2023 presidential election.

“Truly PDP needs soul searching to make amends, rather than sweeping its troubled faction under the carpet.” he said.
