FG’s Withdrawal Of Charges Against Me Unrelated To Any Church Sermon, Senator Natasha Counters Akpabio

The Federal High Court and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory have formally struck out the two criminal cases instituted by the Federal Government against the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Reacting to the development, the senator expressed deep gratitude to God and appreciation to Nigerians, particularly the people of Kogi State and her constituents in Kogi Central, for their support throughout what she described as a difficult period.

In a statement on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the withdrawal of the cases reaffirmed her long-held position that the charges were malicious and aimed at persecuting her through abuse of the legal process.

“The recent withdrawal of the two federal government cases against me has clearly affirmed what we have always known, that the charges were maliciously instigated by individuals who sought to manipulate the system and persecute an innocent person,” she said.

The lawmaker also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crediting his leadership and commitment to justice for ensuring that the cases were discontinued.

“I extend my appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, in his wisdom and commitment to justice, ensured that the truth prevailed and directed the discontinuance of the cases,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan acknowledged the support of civil society organisations, activists and legal practitioners who stood by her during the legal battle. Among those mentioned were Obiageli Ezekwesili, Femi Falana (SAN), members of the Womanifesto coalition, Ayesha Yesufu, the Enough Is Enough movement, SERAP and the Nigerian Bar Association.

She also reserved special appreciation for her family, political associates and supporters within the Peoples Democratic Party, describing their support as invaluable.

“Lastly, and dearest of all, my beloved husband, children, office and PDP team — I love you endlessly,” she said.

The senator clarified that the notices of discontinuance were filed on December 12, 2025, stressing that the withdrawal of the cases was not connected to any recent church sermon or public commentary.

Akpoti-Uduaghan concluded by reaffirming her commitment to serving Kogi Central and contributing to national development.

Dele Momodu Joins ADC, Rules Out Senate, Governorship Ambitions

Veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ending months of speculation over his next political move following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Momodu declared his membership of the ADC on Thursday in Benin City, where he also ruled out any ambition to contest for the Senate or the governorship of Edo State, insisting that his interest lies in promoting the welfare of the people rather than seeking elective office.

“People have asked me what I want, whether I want to be governor or senator. No,” Momodu said. “I simply want to promote the best interests of our people.”

The former presidential aspirant described his decision to join the ADC as a deliberate step aimed at strengthening opposition politics and preventing the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria.

“It is hard to imagine the pride I feel at this moment as I undertake this self-led event to pick up my membership card of the African Democratic Congress, the new opposition coalition in Africa’s most populous nation,” he said.

According to him, his mission in politics is to collaborate with like-minded Nigerians to rescue the country from what he described as creeping one-party dominance.

“My mission is to join hands of fellowship with citizens of like minds to rescue, recover and reset Nigeria. Nigeria must be rescued from a one-party state and a one-party parliament,” Momodu stated.

Speaking on his reconnection with his ancestral roots in Edo State, Momodu said it took him more than three decades to trace his lineage, crediting Senator Isa Raymond for helping him reconnect with his home community.

“It took me a long time, over 30 years, before I could discover my ancestral home. Senator Isa Raymond adopted me from the very first day we met and coordinated everything when I returned home,” he said.

Momodu also said his decision to join the ADC was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to Edo State’s political development while keeping the welfare of the people at the centre of governance.

Reflecting on his personal journey, he noted that he had spent decades building a life and career abroad but was now fully reintegrating into Nigeria’s political process.

DAILY GAZETTE recalls that the Ovation Magazine publisher resigned from the PDP in July 2025, citing the party’s alleged takeover by anti-democratic forces.

In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu said the party had been hijacked “in broad daylight” by forces working against internal democracy.

He added that it was honourable to leave what he described as a “carcass” of the party and align with the ADC-led opposition coalition.

Gov Mbah Reaffirms Support For Armed Forces, Urges Nigerians To Learn From History’s Scars

Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, fallen heroes and their families, stressing that the lessons from Nigeria’s history of division must guide the pursuit of unity, peace and security.

Mbah made the pledge on Thursday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Wreath-Laying Ceremony held at Okpara Square, Enugu, describing January 15 as a solemn day for national reflection on the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the country.

The governor said the Enugu State Government would continue to partner with the Federal Government to ensure that serving personnel, veterans and the families of fallen heroes receive sustained care, respect and support.

“As a state government, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and their families. This support goes beyond ceremony. It is reflected in practical care, advocacy and partnership with the Federal Government,” Mbah said.

He noted that Armed Forces Remembrance Day was not only about honouring the fallen, but also about standing with the families who bear the burden of their loss long after the battlefield.

“When a soldier falls, the loss does not end at the battlefield. It enters homes and becomes part of daily life for spouses, parents and children. To remember the fallen is also to care for the living,” he stated.

Mbah stressed that the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes should inspire Nigerians to uphold unity, discipline, service and respect for human life, adding that peace and security must be consciously protected.

“Our history carries the scars of division, from the Civil War of the late 1960s to later internal conflicts. At great human cost, we have learned what happens when unity fractures. Peace and safety must be protected by restraint, dialogue and shared responsibility,” the governor said.

He added that security was best sustained through prevention, cooperation and collective responsibility, rather than violence and discord.

Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, the President of the Military Widows Association of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, Mrs Sarah Charles Ugwuabonyi, commended Governor Mbah for his concern for the welfare of military widows and their families, while appealing for more job opportunities and skills acquisition programmes to support them.

Highlights of the event included the inspection of a guard of honour by Governor Mbah, the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph of the Unknown Soldier, and the release of white pigeons to symbolise peace.

Other dignitaries who laid wreaths included the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General O. A. Fadairo; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Madueke, Rear Admiral N. Friday; Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command, Nigerian Air Force Enugu, Air Vice Marshal A. G. Kehinde; Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, CP Bitrus Giwa; Director of the State Security Service, Mr Humphrey Ohikhuare; Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Enugu State chapter, Dr Emeka Igweshi; and the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Asadu.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh; Chairman of ALGON in Enugu State, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh; and other top government officials.

Civil War Ended 56 Years Ago, Move On, Embrace National Unity – Soludo Tells Ndigbo

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on Ndigbo to move beyond the Nigerian Civil War and channel their energy towards national participation and development, noting that the conflict ended 56 years ago.

Soludo made the appeal on Thursday during the wreath-laying and parade ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Ekwueme Square, Awka.

He said there was no justification for continued violence or agitation anchored on a war that officially ended on January 15, 1970.

According to the governor, the people of the South-East must redirect their focus towards active involvement in national affairs and collective nation-building.

He stressed that fighting, killings and hiding in forests in the name of agitation only deepen suffering within the region.

He explained that Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves to honour Nigerian heroes who lost their lives during the Civil War and in subsequent efforts to preserve the unity of the country, while also reminding citizens of the need to ensure that such a tragedy never reoccurs.

Soludo also appealed to armed groups, bandits and youths claiming to be fighting for Biafra to abandon violence and embrace reintegration, urging them to contribute meaningfully to society.

He encouraged youths in the South-East to take interest in careers within the military, police and other security agencies, warning that continued disengagement could limit the region’s representation in national security leadership in the future.

The governor further commended security agencies in Anambra State for improving security, noting that the state recorded peaceful Christmas celebrations and reclaimed eight local government areas previously affected by criminal activities.

Soludo praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in addressing insecurity nationwide, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration among security agencies would lead to lasting peace.

The ceremony was attended by service chiefs, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, and other dignitaries.

Activities included intercessory prayers, a moment of silence, gun salute, wreath-laying and the release of white pigeons to symbolise peace and unity.

Court Strikes Out Defamation Case Against Senator Natasha After FG Discontinues Suit

Justice Chizoba Orji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has struck out the defamation case brought against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, following a discontinuance by the Federal Government.

The ruling came on Thursday, January 15, 2026, after the prosecution, led by lawyer Aderonke Imana, applied to discontinue the case.

The senator’s counsel, West Idahosa, then requested the court to strike out the matter entirely, urging the return of all documents belonging to the defendant and her sureties.

Justice Orji granted the request, discharging the sureties and ordering all documents returned.

The Federal Government had filed the suit in May 2025, accusing Akpoti-Uduaghan of making defamatory statements on live television.

The allegations included claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello had plotted to assassinate her.

The government alleged that the senator made imputations “knowing or having reason to believe that such imputations would harm the reputation of a person,” citing Sections 391 and 392 of the Penal Code, CAP 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990.

In her TV interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan had stated that she feared for her life after her security was allegedly withdrawn, claiming that attempts on her life were planned in Kogi State.

The court’s ruling now clears her of these charges, bringing the matter to a close.

BREAKING: Impeachment Gone Wrong As Rivers Assembly Fails To Reconvene

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under Speaker Martin Amaewhule, failed to resume plenary on Thursday, a week after adjourning its previous sitting.

During its first 2026 sitting last Thursday, the House had initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over alleged gross misconduct, including the demolition of the state assembly complex and unapproved spending. The session was adjourned until January 15, 2026.

However, as of Thursday noon, there was no sign that the House, currently holding sittings at its conference hall along Aba Road, would reconvene.

No explanation for the delay has been provided, and no new resumption date has been announced.

Efforts to reach the House Chairman on Information, Petitions, and Complaints, Eneme George, for clarification were unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls nor responded to messages.

Police Nab Two Suspected Armed Robbers After Two-Hour Gun Battle In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two suspected armed robbers allegedly linked to a proscribed secessionist group following a two-hour gun battle at Enugwu-Agidi Junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

In a statement on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the arrest occurred in the early hours of Wednesday after a gun duel with a five-man robbery gang.

He described the operation as a major breakthrough in the command’s efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard lives and property.

Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation based on credible intelligence and laid an ambush for the gang.

During the encounter, two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while the remaining three fled with varying injuries.

Recovered items from the suspects included one T.06 rifle, two pump-action guns, 24 rounds of T.06 ammunition, 15 live cartridges, assorted criminal charms, one cult red beret, and a black Toyota Highlander vehicle.

The statement added that one of the suspects, in a state of distress, confessed that the gang had been involved in a failed attack on the convoy of former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and had retaliated against a rival cult group, the Vikings Confraternity.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their bravery and urged them to continue efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members.

Hospitals and medical facilities have been instructed to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.

This follows a similar intelligence-led operation on November 1, 2025, when a 25-year-old man, Friday Anyikame, allegedly belonging to a proscribed secessionist group, was arrested in Ihiala Local Government Area.

Two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges were recovered during that arrest, according to SP Ikenga.

The police assured that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.

Gov. Mbah And The Prioritization Of Child Welfare And Education In Enugu State: Building Our Tomorrow Today

By Dr. Malachy Chuma Ochie,

In an era when governance is often assessed by the immediacy of political gains rather than the durability of social investments, the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State stands out for its deliberate and future-oriented focus on children.

By placing child welfare and education at the very heart of governance, Governor Mbah has made a compelling statement to the effect that the true measure of leadership lies not in applause today, but in the quality of tomorrow it prepares.

This philosophy was vividly articulated when the governor recently received members of the Enugu State Children’s Parliament at the Government House.

Addressing the children, led by their Speaker, Miss Chimamanda Amobi, Governor Mbah did not merely offer ceremonial platitudes.

Instead, he reaffirmed a governing vision anchored on the conviction that children represent the “hopes, dreams, and future” of Enugu State. His oft-repeated governance mantra, Tomorrow is Here, was given concrete meaning as he described children themselves as the living embodiment of that tomorrow that is visible, tangible, and central to every policy choice his administration makes.

Perhaps the most striking evidence of this commitment is the scale and consistency of financial investment in education.

Governor Mbah’s administration has devoted over 30 per cent of the state’s budgets in 2024, 2025, and 2026 to education.

This is an extraordinary allocation by any standard, and a bold departure from the chronic underfunding that has long plagued Nigeria’s education sector.

This sustained investment underscores his belief that any society that neglects the education and welfare of its children has already compromised its future.

At the core of this educational revolution is the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools across the State.

Conceived not merely as school buildings but as integrated centres of learning, innovation, and care, these schools reflect a holistic understanding of child development.

Beyond conventional classrooms, the Smart Green Schools are equipped with facilities for robotics, artificial intelligence, mechatronics, virtual and augmented reality, ICT hubs, and e-libraries.

The intention is clear and that is to prepare Enugu children for the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy and ensure that they can compete confidently with their peers anywhere in the world.

Yet, Governor Mbah’s vision of education transcends technological sophistication. It recognises that effective learning cannot occur in the absence of good health and proper nutrition.

Each Smart Green School includes a clinic where a child’s health and immunization status is profiled upon admission as early as age three, with mechanisms to regularize missed vaccinations.

In addition, the provision of one nutritious meal daily addresses the persistent challenge of malnutrition, ensuring that no child’s learning potential is undermined by hunger or poor health.

Equally significant is the administration’s decision to provide 12 years of completely free education, which has exceeded UNESCO’s recommended nine years.

From school uniforms and writing materials to daily meals, education in Enugu State is being treated not as a privilege or political favour, but as an inalienable right of every child.

In doing so, the Mbah administration has removed many of the economic barriers that traditionally keep children, especially from vulnerable backgrounds, out of school.

Complementing these investments in education is a firm and unequivocal stance on child protection.

Governor Mbah has repeatedly emphasised his administration’s zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse, including child marriage, sexual exploitation, trafficking, and child labour.

His revelation that the government recently halted the marriage of an underage girl, and intends to prosecute the parents, sends a strong message that Enugu State will not sacrifice the rights and dignity of children on the altar of cultural excuses or social complacency.

This approach affirms that child welfare is not negotiable and that the state will act decisively to protect its most vulnerable citizens.
Importantly, the governor has also underscored the moral dimension of child development.

While equipping children with cutting-edge skills, he urged them to imbibe values traditionally associated with Enugu people such as fairness, honesty, humility, and the fear of God.

This balance between technical competence and moral grounding reflects an understanding that sustainable development requires not just skilled hands, but upright hearts.

The appreciation expressed by the Speaker of the Children’s Parliament, Miss Chimamanda Amobi, further validates the child-centred nature of the administration.

Her commendation of initiatives such as the Smart Green Schools, free daily meals, stronger educational policies, the establishment of a Disability Commission, and the training of auxiliary social workers for child protection highlights a governance framework that is both inclusive and empathetic.

The presence of UNICEF representatives at the event also signals alignment with global best practices in child rights and development.
In prioritising child welfare and education, Governor Peter Mbah has chosen the long, demanding path of sustainable development over the short-term comforts of populism.

The full dividends of his investments may only become evident years after his tenure, but that is precisely what makes the vision profound. By building policies around children, his administration is laying the foundation for a prosperous, decent, and globally competitive Enugu State.

Ultimately, Gov. Mbah’s approach reminds us that governance is not just about managing the present, but about courageously shaping the future.

And in Enugu State, that future is being deliberately, thoughtfully, and unapologetically built around its children.

2027: ADC State Chairmen Reject Zoning, Demand Open Presidential Primary

State chairmen of the African Democratic Congress have rejected calls to zone the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, urging instead an open and competitive primary capable of producing a credible and nationally acceptable candidate.

The chairmen warned that zoning the ticket could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general election and undermine its growing status as a rallying point for opposition forces seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking separately with DAILY GAZETTE, the Chairman of the ADC State Chairmen Forum and Kogi State Chairman, Kingsley Ogga; the forum’s Secretary and Edo State Chairman, Kennedy Odion; and the Adamawa State Chairman, Arabi Mustapha, insisted that competence, credibility and electability should outweigh geopolitical considerations.

Their intervention comes amid internal debates within the party following the influx of prominent political figures with presidential ambitions and renewed pressure from some blocs for the ticket to be zoned.

In July 2025, the ADC emerged as the platform for an opposition coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

Since then, the party, led by former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, has intensified efforts to strengthen its structures nationwide.

Several high-profile politicians have joined the party in recent months, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, further intensifying internal discussions over the mode of selecting the party’s flagbearer.

Some supporters of Obi have argued for zoning the ticket to the South, while Atiku’s allies and other stakeholders favour an open contest.
Ogga described zoning as counterproductive for a party aspiring to present itself as a national alternative.

“The process should be open to all. Whoever emerges through a transparent and credible primary should carry the ticket,” he said, adding that zoning would unnecessarily narrow the party’s options and alienate capable aspirants.

According to him, a free and fair primary would strengthen unity and legitimacy within the party, ensuring that all members rally behind the eventual candidate.

Odion echoed similar sentiments, warning that zoning prioritises sectional interests over national development.

“Zoning does not equate to competence. Restricting the ticket to one zone limits the pool of capable leaders and may compromise the party’s objective of rescuing Nigeria,” he said.

He stressed that the ADC must conduct primaries Nigerians can trust, noting that only a candidate with broad national appeal can effectively challenge the ruling party.

Mustapha also cautioned against zoning, saying it sends the wrong signal to voters and weakens national cohesion.

“The contest should be open to all qualified Nigerians. Zoning will do more harm than good and diminish our electoral prospects,” he said.

The chairmen collectively urged the party’s National Working Committee to guarantee an inclusive and transparent primary process that can produce a candidate capable of galvanising nationwide support in 2027.

Meanwhile, former presidential candidate and Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, is set to formally defect to the ADC today (Thursday) in Benin City, Edo State.

Momodu, a known ally of Atiku, is among opposition figures advocating a broad-based coalition to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The declaration is expected to take place at the new ADC State Secretariat, with party leaders and stakeholders in attendance.

Speaking ahead of the event, Momodu described his defection as a homecoming and urged Nigerians to rally around what he termed a rescue mission for the country’s democracy.

He called on citizens across party lines to unite against what he described as the growing threat to democratic governance, stressing that his decision was driven by national interest rather than personal ambition.

According to him, a fragmented opposition cannot defeat an incumbent government, adding that only a united front can safeguard democracy and honour the legacy of MKO Abiola.

FG Suspends Implementation Guidelines For New Tax Laws Over Conflicting Versions

The Federal Government has suspended the issuance of implementation guidelines for the newly enacted tax laws, citing uncertainty over which version represents the final and authentic text, Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has disclosed.

Oyedele said the decision was taken after conflicting versions of the tax laws emerged, raising concerns about their legal authenticity.

He explained that he had directed the Nigeria Revenue Service and the Joint Revenue Board to hold off on issuing guidelines until clarity is restored.

He spoke in Lagos while responding to questions after delivering a keynote address at the 2026 Economic Outlook organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, themed “ICAN@60: Accountability as the Bedrock for National Development.”

According to Oyedele, uncertainty deepened when attempts to obtain printed copies of the laws from the government printer proved unsuccessful.

“I told my staff to go and buy the printed version from the government printer. They were told it was not available,” he said, adding that he later learned that all printed copies had been taken by the National Assembly pending the completion of lawmakers’ review.

He noted that while legislative review is part of the lawmaking process, withholding access to the laws has reintroduced uncertainty into the tax reform agenda.

Oyedele cited the Acts Authentication Act, which recognises documents published by the government printer as evidence of valid law, but said lawmakers disputed the version earlier gazetted, insisting it did not reflect what they passed.

Efforts to get reactions from the spokespersons of the Senate and the House of Representatives were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not returned as of last night.

The tax reform law, the National Revenue Service Act, the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria Act, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act and the Nigeria Tax Act, took effect on January 1 but attracted criticism following allegations that the gazetted versions differed from those passed by the National Assembly.

In December, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, raised a matter of privilege, alleging discrepancies between the laws debated and approved by lawmakers and those released to the public.

The House subsequently set up a committee to investigate the claims.

On January 3, the National Assembly released Certified True Copies of the approved versions, disowning the earlier controversial gazetted documents.

A comparison showed that the disputed discrepancies had been addressed.
Reacting to allegations of alterations, Oyedele downplayed the impact of the changes, insisting they do not affect the substance of the tax reforms.

“There are few items, but nothing that affects tax rates, tax burden or filing deadlines,” he said, adding that the core provisions of the laws remain intact.

Oyedele also expressed concern over what he described as organised resistance and misinformation targeted at the tax reforms.

He alleged that some individuals were paid to stage protests against the laws.

According to him, misinformation had serious economic consequences, citing an instance in November 2025 when false narratives triggered panic selling that wiped about N4.6 trillion off the stock market in a single day.

“The new tax laws exempt people who sell up to N150 million a year. Why should someone selling N1 million panic? That is the danger of misinformation,” he said, noting that pension funds and other investments were affected.

Speaking on the conference theme, Oyedele described accountability as the link between reform ideas and tangible results, arguing that Nigeria’s major challenge lies in execution rather than policy formulation.

“Reforms can be brilliant, but execution fails largely because of weak accountability,” he said, urging Nigerians to seek knowledge and demand transparency to build trust around reforms.

At a panel session, the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Chinyere Almona, called for stronger inter-agency collaboration in implementing the tax laws, warning that policy conflicts often arise at the execution stage.

She also advocated the use of technology and centralised monitoring systems.

Similarly, the Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, urged inclusive implementation that supports growth without undermining competitiveness.

He lamented the sector’s contribution of less than 10 per cent to GDP and disclosed that unsold inventory across the manufacturing sector has risen to about N2 trillion.

Earlier, the chairman of the session, Mohammed Hayatudeen, said Nigeria was entering 2026 at a delicate moment, noting that although inflation had moderated, the exchange rate stabilised and external revenues improved, poverty levels remain high.

In his welcome address, ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, stressed that accountability remains central to Nigeria’s economic stability and long-term development.

He said the country recorded modest economic improvements in 2025 but warned that progress could be reversed without discipline, transparency and strong institutions.

Yahaya urged stakeholders to move beyond diagnosing problems to proposing practical solutions that strengthen governance and institutional capacity.
