Governorship Election: INEC Office Cordoned Off As Ndi Anambra Head To Poll Tomorrow

Heavy security presence has taken over the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

On Friday morning, hundreds of security personnel, including police officers and soldiers, were deployed around the commission’s office located near Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Several armoured personnel carriers and patrol trucks were stationed at key entry points, effectively sealing off access to the area.

The deployment caused a temporary halt to vehicular movement around Ekwueme Square, forcing motorists and pedestrians to park and walk across restricted routes to reach their destinations.

According to INEC officials, the security clampdown was part of precautionary measures to safeguard the movement of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials and to ensure the safety of electoral staff.

An INEC official who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that the operation was a coordinated effort between the police, army, and other security agencies.

“Soldiers and policemen were drafted to the premises and surrounding areas to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Movement of materials and electoral personnel is still ongoing,” the source said.

The official added that the cordon was also meant to minimize interference from the public and guarantee strict adherence to security protocols outlined in the Electoral Act.

“The INEC office was sealed off to avoid unnecessary distractions and to ensure that only accredited persons have access,” the source added.

INEC has reiterated its readiness for Saturday’s governorship poll, which will hold in 5,718 polling units across the state.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, the Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced that about 24,000 ad hoc staff and 540 accredited journalists would be deployed for the election.

Amupitan reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, saying all necessary logistics and security arrangements have been finalized.

A total of 16 candidates representing 16 political parties are contesting in the election, including the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The heightened security around INEC’s office comes amid widespread preparations across Anambra, with residents making last-minute purchases and movements before the restriction of movement expected on election day.

Rob Jetten Wins Dutch Election, Set To Become Youngest PM

The Dutch Electoral Council has officially declared Rob Jetten, leader of the Democrats 66 (D66) party, the winner of last week’s election, positioning the 38-year-old centrist to become the Netherlands’ youngest-ever prime minister.

Jetten narrowly defeated anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders by just 29,668 votes in an election widely seen as a test for the rise of Europe’s far-right movements.

“We’ve shown that populist movements can be beaten with a positive campaign for the country,” Jetten told AFP.

Before assuming office, Jetten must form a coalition, a process that could take months.

The Dutch political system ensures no single party controls parliament, meaning compromise among multiple parties is essential.

Election Results at a Glance

  • D66: 26 seats (lowest-ever number for an election winner)
  • PVV (Wilders): 26 seats
  • CDA (centre-right): 18 seats
  • VVD (right-wing liberal): 22 seats
  • Green/Labour: 20 seats
  • Other parties, including animal rights and over-50 groups, also won seats

Despite losing 11 seats from his previous shock victory in 2023, Wilders’ PVV remains influential.

The far-right Forum for Democracy increased its seats from 3 to 7, while JA21 grew from 1 to 9.

Jetten prefers a four-party coalition with the CDA, VVD, and Green/Labour, which would give a stable majority of 86 seats.

However, VVD leader Dilan Yesilgoz has ruled out partnering with the Green/Labour bloc.

Other coalition options include a right-wing alliance with CDA, JA21, and D66, which would yield 75 seats but could be unstable, or a minority coalition, though Jetten has rejected this approach.

To explore possible alliances, Jetten has appointed Wouter Koolmees, head of the national rail company, as a “scout” to negotiate between parties.

A progress report is expected on Tuesday.

Wilders has conceded defeat but has posted unverified claims of voting irregularities on social media.

The Electoral Council, however, confirmed the election was conducted fairly, noting a reduction in counting errors to about 8,000 compared with 14,000 in 2021.

The snap election was triggered by Wilders pulling his PVV party from negotiations, citing slow progress toward implementing his proposed “strictest immigration policy ever.”

Police Bust Cameroonian Kidnap Syndicate Posing As Visa Agents

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the dismantling of a notorious syndicate of Cameroonian nationals involved in kidnapping victims under the guise of visa processing.

Command Spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that two suspects were arrested during a raid on their hideout in Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while the gang leader remains at large.

The operation followed a distress call from Kengne Maeva, a Cameroonian woman who was lured into Nigeria on 29 September 2025 by a man named Donald, who promised to secure a Canadian visa for her.

Instead, Maeva and her younger sister were held hostage in a two-bedroom flat in Pakuro, Ogun State.

Maeva managed to escape captivity on 3 November 2025 and alerted the police, revealing that other victims were also being held. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of suspects Ndzana Kamga Isidore and Tingue Stephen.

The police confirmed that the victims’ families in Cameroon had paid a ransom of 3.6 million CFA francs into the fleeing suspect’s bank account.

“Upon arrival at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, the victims were received by the fake agency, which transported them to Mowe, Ogun State, where they were held,” Odutola explained.

Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed enhanced surveillance of similar criminal activities across the state and instructed tactical commanders to work closely with community leaders, particularly in remote areas, to monitor suspicious foreign nationals renting properties.

Police Clarify Arrest Of Regina Daniels’ Brother

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has addressed the recent arrest and remand of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, who is the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.

Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos last week and subsequently transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

The actress, whose marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko has been in the public spotlight, had raised concerns about her brother’s arrest, alleging that the police were biased in favor of her estranged husband.

However, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, stated on Friday that the arrest was lawful and conducted following due process.

According to her, multiple invitations for questioning were sent to Ojeogwu, which he failed to honor, prompting the issuance of a court-sanctioned arrest warrant.

Adeh explained that the case stems from a petition submitted on 28 October 2025 against Ojeogwu and three others, alleging criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying.

Investigations have since been concluded, and Ojeogwu was charged in court on 6 November 2025. He was remanded pending fulfillment of bail conditions.

“The command remains committed to professional policing, due process, and upholding the rule of law,” Adeh emphasized.

Meanwhile, Senator Ned Nwoko, Daniels’ estranged husband, has not publicly commented on the arrest.

JUST IN: Ex-Senator Ohuabunwa Appointed Factional PDP BoT Chairman

Former Senator representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa, has been appointed as the factional Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His emergence follows the dissolution of the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT by a faction aligned with the party’s new Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad.

The announcement came via a communique issued on Friday after an emergency meeting of the newly reconstituted BoT in Abuja.

The board also elected Isah Dansidi as Secretary, replacing Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

The BoT stated that Wabara and Makarfi could no longer serve due to their public positions in the ongoing intra-party disputes, which, according to the board, undermined the neutrality and moral authority expected of the BoT.

“Accordingly, the board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees, respectively,” the statement read.

The BoT reaffirmed the PDP’s unity as an “indivisible, united, and democratic family” committed to justice, equity, and progress.

It also recognized the authority of all legally constituted organs of the party and commended the judiciary for upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP Constitution.

The board directed all PDP organs to comply fully with the Federal High Court judgment of 31 October, which nullified certain actions of the previous leadership.

Regarding the party’s planned national convention, the BoT recommended postponement until the Court of Appeal delivers a final ruling on the matter.

“The judgment of the Federal High Court remains superior and weightier in law than the interim order of the Oyo State High Court.”

“Prudence and respect for judicial processes demand that the proposed National Convention be postponed until the Court of Appeal delivers its decision,” the communique stated.

The BoT cautioned all party organs against acting outside the constitution or in contempt of court, warning that any such actions would be invalid.

The board pledged to serve as the “conscience and moral compass of the party,” mediating among stakeholders, promoting inclusivity, and preventing divisions that could threaten party cohesion.

Meanwhile, PDP elder statesman Jim Nwobodo called on the BoT to ensure the party remains a “beacon of democracy” in Nigeria.

He urged the board to engage aggrieved members willing to abide by the party constitution and bring them back into the PDP fold.

“As one of the founding fathers and the oldest member of this family, I know that the PDP is a party where every member belongs. My appeal is for the leadership to reach out to aggrieved members and ensure the PDP remains the party to beat,” Nwobodo said.

He also called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to assist the BoT, noting that the PDP could achieve significant progress if the minister devoted the same energy to party development as he did to infrastructure projects in Abuja.

“Honourable Minister Wike, they need your help. If you put that same effort into this party, the PDP will be the party to beat. Don’t be deterred or discouraged,” Nwobodo added.

Ex-Power Minister Mamman Insists EFCC Has No Case Against Him

Former Minister of Power, Engr. Saleh Mamman, has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that he plans to file a no-case submission in the ₦31.7 billion fraud case instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Counsel to the former minister, S.T. Abba, revealed this intention shortly after the EFCC closed its case on Thursday, following the testimony of its 17th prosecution witness, Abubakar Gabdo.

The anti-graft agency had alleged that Mamman conspired with others to divert funds from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing using multiple private companies and Bureau de Change operators.

The EFCC claimed that large sums were traced to accounts belonging to Breathable Investment, Fullest Utility Concepts, and Golden Bond Nigeria Limited, among others.

However, during cross-examination, Gabdo told the court that Mamman was neither the owner nor a signatory to any of the companies allegedly used for the diversion.

He also confirmed that the former minister had denied any connection to the firms.

Gabdo further disclosed that seven officials, Mustapha Abubakar Bida, Joseph Omotayo Adewunmi, Ben Nsikak, Stephen Ojo, Oladipo Adebowale, Micheal Achua, and Ogunjobi Olusola, were the authorised managers of the Mambila Zungeru Special Project Account domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He added that Bida, the Chief Account Officer, held final approval powers on transactions, noting that neither the Minister nor the Permanent Secretary could authorise withdrawals from the account.

The witness also admitted that some payments recorded in the case file were made before Mamman’s appointment in 2019, while others continued after he left office in 2021.

Gabdo testified that companies such as Fullest Utility Concepts Limited and Platinum Touch Enterprise received substantial payments, with one firm reportedly processing 18 transactions in a single day in 2021.

Other beneficiaries mentioned include Silverline Ocean, Gurubce Limited, and Royal Perimeter Ventures.

Following the testimony, EFCC counsel A.O. Mohammed announced the closure of the prosecution’s case.

In response, Mamman’s lawyer informed the court of the defence’s intention to file a no-case submission, arguing that the EFCC failed to establish any link between the former minister and the alleged offences.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the matter until November 27 for the adoption of written addresses.

Ebonyi: Uburu Community Endorses David Umahi University Expansion, Clears Minister Of Land Grabbing Allegations

The people of Uburu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have expressed strong support for the ongoing expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHSU), describing the project as a collective decision aimed at boosting education and economic development in the area.

In a communiqué jointly signed by community leaders; HRH Eze (Dr.) Lazarus Umahi Nweze, Chief Shedrack Onu, and Chief Odi Nicholas Enyi, the Uburu Traditional Rulers Council reaffirmed that the university’s expansion was a unanimous resolution of the host community, not an individual initiative.

The council also exonerated the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, from allegations of land grabbing, describing a recent petition against him as false, malicious, and politically motivated.

“The expansion of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences is a collective initiative of Ndi Uburu, conceived and endorsed by the Uburu Traditional Council,” the communiqué stated.

“We therefore declare that Senator Umahi is completely exonerated from all accusations relating to the land process.”

The leaders denounced what they called the misuse of the community’s name by a few individuals allegedly acting in bad faith to “tarnish the image of Senator Umahi and create unnecessary divisions.”

Similarly, the DUFUHSU Land Expansion Committee, chaired by Dr. Umezurike Daniel with Mr. Odi Nicholas Enyi as secretary, issued a statement explaining that the expansion followed a transparent and well-documented process.

According to the committee, the university’s governing council had requested additional land after discovering that its current site, measuring less than 20 hectares, could no longer accommodate its growing academic and infrastructural needs.

“Our committee conducted public sensitisation, identified affected landowners, obtained written consents, and ensured full compensation for all 29 verified landowners,” the statement noted.

“At no time did Senator Umahi or any government representative engage in coercion, land grabbing, or intimidation. The process was entirely transparent and community-led.”

The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the project, which they said will enhance access to education, generate employment, and bring pride to the people of Uburu and Ebonyi State at large.

“We stand united behind the university’s expansion,” the communiqué concluded. “It represents progress, development, and opportunity for our children and future generations.”

FG Names Enugu As National Institute For Sports Headquarters

The Federal Government has announced Enugu State as the designated host for the National Institute for Sports (NIS) South-East Zonal Headquarters, citing the state’s impressive strides in infrastructure, security, and sports development.

The Director-General of the NIS, Comrade Philip Shaibu, made the announcement on Friday during a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House, Enugu.

Shaibu, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, said the decision to site the zonal office in Enugu was influenced by the visible transformation taking place under Governor Mbah’s administration.

He highlighted the state’s modern infrastructure, peaceful environment, hospitality, and strong record in sports development as decisive factors.

“By designating Enugu as the home of our South-East Zonal Office, we are recognizing not only the state’s strategic location and outstanding infrastructure but also Your Excellency’s clear commitment to youth and sports development,” Shaibu said.

According to him, the new zonal headquarters will serve as a regional hub for athlete and coach development programmes, focused on talent discovery, capacity building, and grassroots sports excellence across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, and Enugu States.

He explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to decentralize sports administration and revive Nigeria’s sporting culture nationwide.

Shaibu commended the Mbah administration for revitalising key sports facilities such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the Awgu Games Village, describing Enugu as an ideal environment for investment and talent development.

“We are not just establishing an office; we are laying the foundation for a sporting revolution that will nurture future champions and create jobs for our youth. This partnership will expand infrastructure and open global opportunities for young talents across the South East,” he added.

In his response, Governor Peter Mbah expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and President Tinubu for their confidence in Enugu, describing the move as a major step towards strengthening sports in the region.

“You have made the right choice by coming to Enugu. This city has a proud sporting heritage where legends were made. For us, sports are not just recreation, they are a driver of economic and social growth,” the governor said.

Mbah assured the NIS team of his administration’s full support, including the provision of office space, logistics, and institutional backing for the smooth takeoff of the zonal office.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive and purposeful governance, ensuring that opportunities in education, health, and talent development reach both urban and rural communities.

“Our vision is deliberate and people-centered. We will continue to create an enabling environment for young people to thrive in sports, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” Mbah said.

‘It’s Pure Genocide’, APC Chieftain Backs Trump On Christian Killings In Nigeria

APC Chieftain Backs Trump, Says Christian Genocide In Nigeria Is Real

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has voiced support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement describing the ongoing violence in Nigeria as a “genocide.”

Speaking in an interview with Trust TV shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Garba said the scale of killings across the country aligns with what can be defined as genocide.

His comments followed the United States’ decision to list Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over religious freedom and human rights violations.

Garba recalled that in 2014, while the APC was still the opposition party, its leaders had visited the White House to appeal for help over what they described as the systematic killing of Christians after the Chibok girls’ abduction.

“In fact, in 2014, the then-opposition APC was in the White House seeking help regarding what was termed the Christian genocide following the Chibok girls’ incident. This is already on record,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria recently purchased $346 million worth of military equipment from the U.S, with plans to send Nigerian soldiers for training as part of the growing defense cooperation between both countries.

Garba emphasized that under the United Nations Convention on Counterterrorism, the U.S is recognized as a global leader in the fight against terrorism and, through the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, has the authority to intervene where acts of terrorism or genocide are identified.

“Wherever terrorism is established, the U.S. has the right to act under the R2P principle. They can step in to eliminate the threat,” he explained.

Rather than rejecting Washington’s concern, Garba urged the Nigerian government to show openness and a willingness to collaborate with the U.S. to end terrorism.

“What Nigeria should do is demonstrate readiness to partner with the U.S. in tackling terrorism, not reject the helping hand being offered. We can negotiate responsibly and seek assistance on our own terms,” he added.

He suggested that Nigeria should diplomatically acknowledge the extent of the killings and work out a cooperative framework.

“We can tell them, yes, these killings are real, but they affect not only Christians; Muslims are also victims. Let’s discuss and receive support responsibly,” he said.

The APC chieftain lamented that thousands of innocent Nigerians, both Muslims and Christians, continue to lose their lives in attacks across communities, often without any form of protection from security agencies.

“When you look at the numbers, people killed in their homes, defenceless in villages across Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, what else can you call it? It’s pure genocide,” Garba stated.

He stressed that the pattern of mass killings in several northern states leaves entire communities devastated, describing the situation as one that demands urgent global attention.
