What’s Happening In Plateau Is Pure Genocide – Dachung Bagos

Former member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has described the recent wave of killings in Plateau State as a “planned genocide,” warning that the situation could spiral further without urgent intervention.

Bagos made the assertion during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, alleging that the attacks were carefully coordinated and executed by trained militias.

“This was not random violence. It was a calculated attack. What is happening in Plateau is pure genocide,” he said, adding that the assailants appeared to have prior knowledge of their targets.

According to him, the restraint shown by local youths has so far prevented the violence from escalating into full-blown communal clashes, despite what he described as deliberate provocations.

He also called for accountability, urging authorities to prosecute individuals previously arrested over related threats, insisting that failure to do so has emboldened attackers.

Bagos further raised concerns over intelligence and security lapses, noting reports that the gunmen neither spoke Hausa nor operated like typical local bandits, suggesting a more organised external force.

Residents, he said, are demanding concrete security action rather than political rhetoric, including the establishment of state police and better equipping of security agencies.

The remarks come in the wake of a deadly Sunday night attack in Angwan Rukuba and nearby communities in Jos North Local Government Area, which left several people dead and many others injured, forcing residents to flee their homes.

The incident follows a similar attack in Kanam Local Government Area weeks earlier, where over 20 security operatives and vigilantes were killed in an ambush.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has since condemned the latest violence as “barbaric and unprovoked,” convened emergency security meetings, and imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North in a bid to restore order.

PDP Suffers Fresh Blow As Ex-FCT Minister Resigns From Party

Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending over two decades of membership.

Akinjide announced her exit in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday, describing the decision as difficult but necessary after deep personal reflection.

“I have been a member of this party since 2001, and this decision was not taken lightly,” she stated. “I hereby formally resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

She expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided, noting that her time in the PDP allowed her to build valuable relationships and serve in various capacities.

She also wished the party success in its future endeavours.

Her resignation was confirmed by a close associate, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, who affirmed that the development was genuine.

Court Bars Turaki-Led Faction From PDP Secretariat, Backs Wike Camp

A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki from accessing or operating from the party’s national secretariat.

The ruling, delivered on Monday by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, followed a suit filed by members of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In her decision, the judge directed security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), to secure the PDP national headquarters and ensure unhindered access for the Wike-backed faction.

Justice Abdulmalik held that the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced the Turaki-led leadership, was conducted in defiance of subsisting court orders.

She declared the exercise invalid and of no legal effect.

The court further ruled that the convention violated Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as the internal rules governing the PDP.

Tragedy On Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, One Dead, Eight Injured As Crash Involves Journalists

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to eight others, including four journalists, following a multiple-vehicle accident at the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

The Enugu State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Franklin Agbakoba, disclosed this on Sunday in Enugu, stating that the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on March 28.

According to him, a total of nine persons—six पुरुष and three females—were involved in the accident, which included a commercial Mercedes truck, a Toyota Sienna, and a Toyota Hiace bus.

Agbakoba attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking and excessive speeding.

He added that FRSC rescue teams promptly evacuated the injured victims to Tex Hospital, 9th Mile Corner, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Colliery Hospital morgue in Enugu.

He further noted that officers cleared the obstruction caused by the crash to restore the free flow of traffic along the busy expressway.

Among the injured are four journalists: NTA reporter Chimaroke Ugwu and his cameraman Jerry Ugwuanyi, as well as AIT reporter Kelechi Ekeledo and his cameraman Ifeanyi Ogbodo.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu Council, Obinna Ogbuka, expressed sympathy with the affected journalists and thanked God for sparing their lives.

He, however, decried the recurring accidents along the Ugwu-Onyeama axis and called for the speedy completion of ongoing reconstruction works on the road to prevent further tragedies.

Bandits K!ll 13, Abduct Several In Kaduna Midnight Attack

Suspected bandits on Sunday night stormed a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least 13 people and abducting several others in a brutal late-night assault.

The attackers, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the venue around 11:47 pm, opening fire indiscriminately on guests and throwing the entire community into chaos.

A resident, Shehu Bala, who spoke via telephone, said many victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while others with severe injuries were transferred to Kaduna for advanced treatment.

“Some of my friends were inside the hall and were hit by bullets. The shooting was intense, and it’s difficult to determine how many people were taken,” he said.

A community leader, who requested anonymity, confirmed the casualty figure and listed victims including Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, and others.

He added that the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance, looting shops and carting away food items, provisions, and drugs from a local chemist.

The victims have since been buried, while efforts to establish contact with the abductors are yet to yield results.

Residents were forced to flee into surrounding bushes as panic gripped the community during the attack.

A police source in Kagarko confirmed the incident, noting that authorities are still working to ascertain the exact number of those kidnapped.

The Kaduna State Police Command also acknowledged the attack, with spokesperson DSP Hassan Mansur stating that a detailed report would be released after full assessment.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and a federal lawmaker visited injured victims at the hospital in Kagarko.

NNPP To Join Forces With ADC As Kwankwaso Defects Ahead Of 2027

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced plans to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party confirmed the development through its National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday.

Johnson stated that despite the defection of NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party will remain active in upcoming elections.

“The NNPP will continue to contest elections. While we will align with the ADC at the presidential level and possibly in some national contests, we will still field candidates down the ballot,” he said.

The move comes after extensive consultations between Kwankwaso, the Kwankwasiyya movement, and top opposition figures.

Johnson confirmed that Kwankwaso officially resigned from the NNPP and joined the ADC in Kano State on Monday, explaining that the realignment aims to strengthen opposition collaboration and serve Nigerians’ interests.

Kwankwaso, a two-term former governor of Kano State, cited strategic political realignment as the reason for his switch.

“As a committed member of the NNPP, this was not an easy decision. But considering Nigeria’s current political trajectory, I must identify with a platform that offers the best opportunity to effect meaningful change,” he said.

The development follows a widening rift within the NNPP, as Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf recently defected to the APC with several lawmakers and appointees, a move Kwankwaso publicly opposed, calling it a betrayal.
