2027: Governor Bago Appoints Himself DG Of Tinubu Campaign, Names Niger State As Campaign Headquarter

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced that he has made himself the Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

He also declared Niger State, with its capital Minna, as the campaign headquarters.

Speaking on TVC’s “Politics on Sunday”, Bago criticized calls for a northern presidency this early into Tinubu’s tenure, calling them “premature and politically hasty.”

He reminded critics that Tinubu is only in his second year in office.

The governor insisted that there is an implicit understanding in Nigeria that power alternates between the North and the South, noting that this arrangement has helped maintain stability.

He recalled that after Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years as president, Tinubu who is from the South, assumed the presidency.

Bago pledged to mobilize support from northern youths and voters for Tinubu.

He also called on presidential hopefuls from the North to wait until after Tinubu’s full two terms before contesting, saying there should be respect for the rotation.

He emphasized unity in the ruling party, urging supporters to focus on loyalty and avoid disunity.

Niger State’s role, he said, will be central to the campaign, with the state acting as its administrative base.

JUST IN: Hilda Baci Sets Record For Largest Serving Of Nigerian‑Style Jollof Rice, GWR Confirms

Guinness World Records has officially confirmed that chef Hilda Baci, in collaboration with Gino Nigeria, has achieved a record‑breaking service of 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) of Nigerian‑style jollof rice.

The event took place last Friday in Lagos.

The Akwa Ibom‑born chef, whose full name is Hilda Bassey, completed this monumental attempt during an eight‑hour open cooking session held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.

The effort drew hundreds of guests and live performances in a festive atmosphere.

The ingredients used in the dish were disclosed in full compliance with Guinness rules. Baci shared that she used 4,000 kg of washed basmati rice (making up at least 80% of the total weight as required), 164 kg of fresh goat meat, 220 kg of Gino Asun & Peppered Chicken Cubes, and 600 kg of her signature jollof pepper mix.

“It took nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork,” she said, adding that 1,200 kg of gas was used to produce 16,600 plates of rice “served with joy, love and community.”

She also reflected on the challenge:

“I didn’t realise it would be this hard — it has been a real challenge. It took a lot of hard work, but achieving the record is truly satisfying. This record also belongs to the people of Nigeria, because they all contributed to its success.”

Strict rules governed the food distribution to ensure none went to waste.

The spectacle included a large pot in which chefs and assistants stirred the jollof while others added water, maintaining momentum throughout.

Hilda Baci’s previous world record in May 2023, cooking continuously for 93 hours and 11 minutes, had already earned her widespread acclaim in Nigeria and beyond.

TikTok To Transition To US-Controlled Ownership Under New Framework Deal

The United States and China have reached a preliminary agreement that would see TikTok shift to U.S-controlled ownership, according to U.S Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Speaking after bilateral talks in Madrid on Monday, Bessent said the “framework” deal aims to address long-standing security concerns over the Chinese-owned app, which has faced mounting pressure from U.S lawmakers and regulators.

“I think the framework is for it to switch to U.S-controlled ownership,” Bessent said, though he did not provide additional details on the structure of the proposed ownership change.

The announcement comes just days before a U.S government-imposed deadline requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the platform or face a nationwide ban.

While the details remain limited, the framework is expected to outline how American investors or entities would assume majority control of TikTok’s U.S operations, ensuring that user data and content moderation are managed domestically.

President Donald Trump, in a post on social media Monday, hinted at the deal without explicitly naming TikTok, saying an agreement had been reached with a company “young people in our country very much wanted to save.”

“They will be very happy!” Trump added.

The move is seen as a significant development in ongoing efforts by Washington to curb foreign influence over technology platforms that hold large amounts of data on American users.

Critics have long accused TikTok of posing a national security threat due to its Chinese ownership, a charge the company has repeatedly denied.

No Justification For Southeast Complaints Under Tinubu – Umahi

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has stated that the Southeast region of Nigeria has no reason to feel sidelined under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing unprecedented federal attention to infrastructure in the zone.

Speaking to reporters during an inspection of the Nassarawa-Makurdi-Nine Mile dual carriageway project on Sunday, Umahi praised the scale and quality of the work being carried out.

He stressed that the Southeast is now seeing tangible development, particularly in road infrastructure.

“President Tinubu has remembered the Southeast very well, and we have no reason to complain,” Umahi said.

“It’s time to act with wisdom and focus on facts, not sentiments.”

He emphasized that President Tinubu’s commitment is evident in the $1 billion (₦15 trillion) road project spanning 264km (528km total when both lanes are considered), currently under construction by China Habo, a major Chinese engineering firm.

“I was expecting to find faults when I came here, but I saw excellent work instead. I commend China Habo for their efficiency and commitment,” Umahi remarked.

The project is being executed in five sections, with three sections in Benue State and the remaining two in Enugu State.

Umahi argued that previous administrations had failed to deliver on such major infrastructure in the region.

He insisted that the current government has provided the Southeast with real reasons to align politically with Tinubu.

“This project alone covers close to 200km on one side. Multiply that by two, and you understand the scale. We have been remembered, not with words, but with action,” he said.

Calling for unity and support, Umahi urged the Southeast to fully embrace the administration, adding that the region is now part of the national agenda.

“Those who were there before didn’t do these roads. But today, a leader has come who is making a difference. We must be wise and stop listening to noise-makers,” he said.

He concluded by expressing confidence in Tinubu’s capacity to complete the projects and deliver on his promises.

“He who started this good work is destined to finish it. We’re no longer at the margins — we’re at the center now.”

Dangote’s CNG Trucks Begin Loading Fuel For Direct Distribution Across Nigeria

The Dangote Refinery has officially begun the deployment of its newly acquired fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, which on Monday commenced the loading of petroleum products at the Lagos facility for nationwide distribution.

The development marks a major step in Dangote Group’s strategy to handle its own fuel logistics through a 4,000-truck programme, valued at over ₦720 billion.

According to reports from the launch event, the first batch of CNG-powered trucks are now actively loading fuel from the refinery’s gantry for direct delivery to retail filling stations.

The refinery had earlier announced in August that it had taken delivery of the first set of trucks, with distribution initially scheduled to begin by August 15.

During a meeting with officials from the AfricaRice Centre on Sunday in Lagos, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, explained that the shift to direct fuel distribution was a deliberate and strategic decision to reduce reliance on third-party transporters and enhance efficiency in the supply chain.

“This is not just a business decision but a national imperative,” Dangote stated.

However, the move has not gone without criticism.

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) recently accused the refinery of prioritising exports with lower pricing, while offering higher rates to local buyers.

The group also alleged that the refinery’s pricing model and direct distribution strategy could edge out existing players in the downstream sector.

They claimed that while the refinery supplies about 30–35% of the national demand, it does not offer free delivery to local off-takers and often bypasses marketers, a move they described as “unpatriotic” and monopolistic.

In response, the Dangote Group defended its operational choices, especially the decision to abandon the Single Point Mooring (SPM) fuel loading system.

According to the company, continuing with SPM would result in unnecessary expenses of ₦75 per litre, amounting to ₦1.5 trillion annually in avoidable handling charges.

“Relying on SPM to load 40 million litres of petrol and 15 million litres of diesel daily would impose a massive financial burden,” a company statement said.

Instead, the refinery will rely on gantry-based loading and its own CNG trucks, which the company argues will drastically reduce costs, ensure direct product delivery, and prevent market manipulation by intermediaries.

“Rather than losing ₦75 per litre to middlemen who may not guarantee delivery to consumers, we’re choosing transparency, efficiency, and affordability. These savings can be redirected to vital infrastructure projects,” Dangote added.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to working with credible local distributors and expanding humanitarian efforts to ensure broad and equitable access to petroleum products.

Nigeria Will Not Bow To Pressure From Global Powers – Foreign Affairs Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has emphasized that the country will not be pressured into aligning with any global power blocs, asserting Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining an independent, interest-driven foreign policy.

Speaking as a guest lecturer at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos on Friday, Tuggar said Nigeria must chart its own course on the global stage.

His comments were contained in a statement released by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, on Sunday.

Tuggar outlined Nigeria’s 21st-century foreign policy framework, which he said would be anchored on four key pillars: democracy, demography, development and the diaspora.

He warned against historical policy missteps, such as blindly following external economic models like the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), which he described as “economic bandwagoning.”

“Our idea is to avoid the booby trap of entangling alliances or ideological over-alignment, but rather to focus on issue-based relationships and partnerships of purpose,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria’s size, large population and internal market offer strategic leverage in navigating today’s complex global environment.

On concerns over the absence of appointed ambassadors, Tuggar assured that Nigerian embassies remain fully functional.

He dismissed suggestions of paralysis in diplomatic missions, noting that chargés d’affaires and career diplomats are competently managing operations.

“All our embassies are functioning well,” he stated.

“The absence of ambassadors has not created a vacuum. Diplomacy is not a one-man show, the system is designed to cope.”

Tuggar added that the appointment of ambassadors is the exclusive prerogative of the President and will be made in due time.

Court Returns Nnamdi Kanu Case File To Chief Judge

A motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been sent back to the Chief Judge by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The motion seeks the reassignment of his case.

According to court proceedings, Kanu filed the motion personally and through his counsel, Uchenna Njoku, requesting an order for transfer to Abuja National Hospital for urgent medical attention.

In a brief ruling, Justice Musa Liman determined that the case file must go to the Chief Judge for reassignment.

This followed the end of the court’s annual vacation, which was cited in the application.

Counsel for the State Security Service (SSS), Adegboyega Awomolo, did not oppose the motion.

However, the judge noted that due to the number of cases listed for the day, over 30, it was impossible to hear all of them, so the court reduced the list to six.

Justice Liman emphasized that motions requiring reassignment must receive proper administrative attention.

Meanwhile, Kanu’s legal team awaits new directions now that the matter has been referred.

After Fatal Stabbing Incident, UNN Bans All Social Activities Beyond 6pm

The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has announced a new policy banning all social activities on campus beyond 6:00 pm, following a tragic stabbing incident that claimed the life of a local businessman.

The directive was issued in a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Egwu.

According to the statement, the decision was prompted by the events of September 12, when a man identified as Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was fatally stabbed during a student-organized event.

Nweze had been attending a bonfire night organized by the Students’ Association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies when violence broke out.

“Henceforth, the UNN management has directed that all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit,” the statement read.

The management further stressed: “Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 pm. henceforth.”

The university noted that the bonfire event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighbouring community, who instigated the violence that led to Nweze’s death.

While strongly condemning the incident, the university also reassured students, staff, and the public of its dedication to campus safety.

“UNN remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and will continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such an incident,” the statement added.

The university did not disclose whether further investigations or arrests have been made in connection with the tragedy.
