Enugu Council Chairman, Hon. Ogbodo, Inspects Amurri Farm Estate Projects, Assures Timely Completion

The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, on Tuesday undertook an inspection tour of the ongoing Amurri Farm Estate project, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to timely completion and full alignment with the state government’s agricultural vision.

During the tour, which was conducted alongside key local government officials, Hon. Ogbodo expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far on the site.

He commended the level of work done, particularly in land clearing and preliminary site development.

“I am satisfied with the level of ongoing work here. The clearing is almost complete. We will soon begin construction of the gatehouse and perimeter fencing,” the Chairman said.

He emphasized that the farm project aligns with the state government’s broader goal of agricultural revitalization, as championed by Governor Peter Mbah.

“We will fully implement all directives of the state government concerning this farm estate. We are committed to supporting Governor Mbah’s laudable dream of boosting agriculture and ensuring food surplus in Enugu State,” he added.

Hon. Ogbodo disclosed that upon completion, the farm estate will feature a large warehouse, a solar-powered borehole, and other essential amenities designed to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Highlighting community involvement, the Chairman revealed that wards such as Agbani and parts of Akpugo have voluntarily donated over 200 hectares of land to the programme.

He appealed to other wards yet to participate to provide land in order to benefit from the agricultural opportunities being rolled out.

“This initiative is not just about farming; it’s about creating jobs, ensuring food security, and improving livelihoods across our communities,” he noted.

FG Begins Implementation Of Degree Programmes In Colleges Of Education

The Federal Government has officially commenced the implementation of bachelor’s degree programmes in 15 approved Federal Colleges of Education across the country.

This development comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s recent assent to legislation empowering Federal Colleges of Education to award both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education.

The announcement was made during a one-day sensitisation programme held in Abuja, focused on ministerial deliverables and the roadmap for the education sector.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, represented by the Director of Educational Planning, Julie Uzor, highlighted the significance of the new policy.

“This policy allows Colleges of Education to concurrently award the NCE and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education. As outlined in the Federal Colleges of Education Act, 2023, this dual mode enhances access, improves quality, and modernises teacher training,” he said.

Enitan also noted that the Federal Government has approved the creation of additional colleges to expand access and increase enrollment.

He further stated that a review of the NCE Minimum Standards is currently underway to ensure alignment with modern educational needs and to maintain high standards.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, affirmed that preparations for the dual-mode programme are already in full swing.

“The dual mode is at the implementation stage, and preparations are in full gear,” Okwelle said.

“As advertised by JAMB, admissions under the dual mode will begin in the 2025–2026 academic session. Students will now be admitted for both NCE and bachelor’s degree programmes,” he added.

Okwelle explained that the amendment to the Federal Colleges of Education Act in 2023 provided the legal foundation for this dual certification model.

He expressed optimism that the initiative will not only boost enrollment figures but also enhance the quality of teacher education in Nigeria.

“With proper pedagogical and content training, our teachers will be better equipped to manage modern classroom challenges,” he said.

Regarding staff welfare, Okwelle assured stakeholders that efforts are being made to improve lecturer motivation through various government-backed initiatives.

These measures are being coordinated with the Federal Ministry of Education and are in line with directives from the presidency.

Dr. Uche Uba, Director of Colleges of Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, also welcomed the development.

She confirmed that all 15 participating Federal Colleges of Education are currently working with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure a smooth and effective transition.

“There is a clear implementation guideline in place. The colleges are liaising with the NUC, and all are following the set conditions to make the process seamless,” she stated.

Prof. Nnamchi’s Defection To APC Strategic – Science & Tech Minister Uche Nnaji

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has described Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi’s move to the APC as “a restoration of strength, intellect, and capacity to the progressive family.”

Chief Nnaji made this remark when Hon. Prof. Nnamchi, accompanied by members of his constituency, visited him at his Asokoro residence in Abuja on Tuesday, shortly after formally defecting to the APC.

He praised the lawmaker’s integrity, legislative record, and unwavering advocacy for youth empowerment and technological advancement.

In a moment characterized by strategic alignment and a shared vision, Hon. Prof. Nnamchi who represents Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency described the visit as significant and a mark of respect.

His defection to the APC has been met with widespread approval and has sparked renewed optimism across the political landscape of Enugu State and beyond.

The visit was far more than a political courtesy; it was a convergence of intellect, purpose, and progressive ideals.

It brought together two notable figures, one, a distinguished academic-turned-lawmaker, and the other, an accomplished technocrat, committed to charting new paths for scientific innovation and technological empowerment, particularly for the youth of the South East.

Prof. Nnamchi reaffirmed that his decision to join the APC stemmed not from personal ambition but from a deep commitment to serve his constituents through a platform that aligns with his vision for sustainable development, inclusive governance, and innovation-driven growth.

Discussions during the meeting focused on collaborative initiatives such as promoting digital literacy, establishing innovation hubs, expanding rural tech access, and implementing targeted science education programs for underserved communities, especially in the South East region.

Both leaders agreed that Nigeria’s future depends on embracing innovation as a common language, one that can rebuild trust, foster unity, and drive prosperity across ethnic and political divides.

IGP Confirms Arrest Of 28 Suspects In Yelwata Massacre, Assures Nigerians Of Ongoing Security Efforts

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday announced the arrest of 28 individuals believed to be involved in the recent killings in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where 47 people were killed.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the IGP revealed that the arrests were part of a wider operation aimed at apprehending all perpetrators of the deadly assault.

“Police, I hope your men are on alert to listen to information. How come no arrest has been made? I expect there should be an arrest of those criminals,” President Bola Tinubu had challenged security chiefs during a visit to Benue last Wednesday.

Responding to that directive, Egbetokun confirmed that police efforts were yielding results and said more suspects were still being tracked.

“We are not overwhelmed,” he assured. “We are mopping up light and small weapons illegally acquired by some persons.”

The police chief added that officers were stepping up border patrol operations to reduce the influx of irregular migrants and prevent further violence.

In addition to the Yelwata suspects, the IGP said 22 individuals had been arrested in Jos in connection with the brutal killing of nine travelers who were en route to a wedding in Quanpan.

“Out of the 28 arrested persons, 2 have been cleared as they were only used as bait to arrest the 26 suspected masterminds,” Egbetokun clarified.

Benue State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, had also confirmed the arrests earlier, though without disclosing the suspects’ identities.

The renewed efforts follow President Tinubu’s direct orders to security agencies to intensify action against those behind the Yelwata killings.

“Christopher (the Chief of Defence Staff), you have given much. I watch your comments, you can’t be tired of staying in the bush. Oloyede and the Air Marshal, we thank all of you, but we need to keep our ears to the ground, let’s get those criminals, let’s get them out. DG NIA, DG SSS, retool your information channels and let’s have tangible intelligence so that this will not occur again,” Tinubu urged during his visit.

The massacre, allegedly carried out by suspected herders, left dozens dead and displaced thousands in the agrarian region, prompting widespread outrage and demands for swift justice.

2027: Calls To Be Tinubu’s Running Mate Misplaced, Barau Tells Supporters

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has publicly distanced himself from mounting calls for him to be named as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election.

These calls, made most notably by the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA), were described by Barau as “misplaced” and untimely.

In a statement released through his spokesman, Ismail Mudashir, the senator appealed to his supporters to stop the campaign and instead back the president’s current administration.

>“My attention has been drawn to various posts on social media and in some national dailies by some groups, including the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA), urging our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to pick me as his running mate come 2027. This is out of place at this moment and not in our best interest,” he stated.

Barau emphasized that political focus should remain on helping President Tinubu deliver on his promises rather than premature speculations about 2027.

“I want to appeal to the NNPYA and all other groups and individuals engaged in this clamour to refrain forthwith and channel their energies and resources towards supporting President Tinubu in his quest to address the numerous challenges facing our country,” he said.

He added that this is not the appropriate time for such political debates, stressing unity and commitment to the president’s agenda.

“This is not the time to engage in this kind of clamour. What should be paramount to all of us at this moment is the success of the President. He is genuinely committed to turning around our country’s fortunes positively,” he noted.

“Therefore, I appeal to all to support him in continuing with his programs and policies that have started to bear positive fruits. Be part of the team to restore the glorious days of our country,” Barau added.

This statement comes amid a tense political atmosphere in the APC, particularly after a recent summit in Gombe State on June 15, where APC stakeholders from the North-East gathered.

The event turned chaotic when Mustapha Salihu, the APC North-East Vice Chairman, endorsed Tinubu for re-election but failed to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima, causing protests among some attendees.

Speculation has been rife about the possibility of Barau or other influential northern politicians being considered as running mates to President Tinubu in 2027.

However, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru has clarified that no discussions on the vice-presidential ticket have officially started.

Another PDP Rep Member Quits Party, Joins APC

Two members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have officially left their political parties to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to an announcement made during Tuesday’s plenary session by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Peter Akpanke, who represents the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency in Cross River State, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. Similarly, Paul Nnamchi, the representative for Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State, resigned from the Labour Party (LP) to align with the APC.

Speaker Abbas formally declared the lawmakers’ decisions before the chamber during the session.

In other legislative developments, the House has moved forward with a bill seeking to amend the 2024 Appropriation Act.

The proposed amendment, which has passed second reading, aims to extend the timeline for executing the capital component of the budget to December 31, 2025.

According to the Speaker, the proposed extension is necessary due to inadequate funding that has hindered implementation of the original budget provisions.

In a related matter, President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the House explaining his decision to withhold assent from the National Assembly Library Trust Fund Establishment Bill.

The president expressed concerns over its financial implications and highlighted conflicts between the bill and existing laws, stating that it “goes against public interest.”

BREAKING: Adamawa Government Revokes Atiku Abubakar’s Waziri Adamawa Title, Others Impacted

The Adamawa State Government has revoked the title of Waziri Adamawa from Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The decision, officially attributed to his non-indigeneship of the Adamawa Emirate, is widely interpreted as an attempt to undermine his political stature in his native state.

The position of Waziri Adamawa ranks just below the Lamido, the paramount ruler of the Adamawa Emirate.

Atiku’s removal, which also affects the title of Walin Adamawa, was confirmed in a circular dated June 20, 2025.

The document was signed by Mrs. Adama Felicity Mamman, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Chieftaincy Affairs, operating under the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

According to the circular:

“Following the creation of new Chiefdoms in the state by the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, I am directed to inform you that all Kingmakers and Council members in the state must be indigene (sic) of their Chiefdoms.

“E.g, all Kingmakers and Council members from Adamawa Emirate Council must be indigene of Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Mayo-Belwa, Song and Zumo Districts; while those of Mubi Emirate Council, must be indigene of Mubi North, Mubi South vis-à-vis all Emirates/Traditional councils in the state.”

This policy renders Atiku, who originates from Jada Local Government Area under the Ganye Chiefdom, ineligible for any title associated with the Adamawa Emirate Council.

The decision has triggered widespread speculation and backlash. Many observers view the timing and execution as a direct affront to Atiku by Governor Fintiri, once his ally in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Both leaders were prominent candidates during the 2023 elections, Atiku for President and Fintiri for Governor, under the same party banner.

Tensions between them have reportedly intensified, especially following Atiku’s engagement in opposition coalition talks.

He has been linked to strategic meetings with Aishatu Binani, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, figures aligned in efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Further fueling concerns is an executive bill currently before the Adamawa State House of Assembly. The proposal would authorize the governor to:

“Depose any ailing emir or king”
and install a
“Chosen prince”
of his own selection.

Critics warn that such a measure could lead to unchecked political interference in traditional institutions, masking power grabs as administrative reforms.

Despite official claims that the revocation is in line with legal restructuring, the broader implications of removing one of Nigeria’s most influential political personalities from a royal title are being viewed by many as a seismic political statement.

Viral Video: Enugu Police Arrest Three Oriokpa Masquerades In Nsukka For Unleashing Mayhem On Residents

The Enugu State Police Command has detained three members of the ‘Oriokpa’ masquerade group in connection with a viral video showing an assault on innocent civilians in Nsukka.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended on June 23 at around 3:30 p.m., following joint efforts by police operatives and concerned members of the community.

According to the police, the suspects participated in a violent incident that occurred during the Oriokpa masquerade celebration on June 22, 2025, where multiple bystanders were physically attacked without provocation. One of the victims sustained serious injuries and required hospital treatment.

“The suspects, along with others still at large, took advantage of the ‘Oriokpa’ Masquerade celebration to assault several innocent members of the public, inflicting bodily injuries,” Ndukwe said.

Initial attempts to arrest the masqueraders were met with resistance, and they fled the scene.

However, police efforts, supported by local residents, led to the successful identification and arrest of three individuals involved.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Mamman Giwa, has directed a full investigation to ensure accountability and justice.

He expressed dismay over the misuse of cultural traditions for criminal activity.

“Masquerade celebrations are a sacred and symbolic aspect of our culture,” Giwa noted. “It is unacceptable for anyone to use these occasions as a pretext for causing harm or engaging in unlawful behavior.”

The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to anyone considering using cultural festivities as cover for criminal acts, adding that such actions would not be tolerated.

“The command is assuring the public that all those involved in the assault of law-abiding citizens will be brought to justice,” Ndukwe added.

Resign From Tinubu Govt Now Before You’re Disgraced – APC Chieftain Tells Shettima

Mallam Salihu Isa Nataro, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former gubernatorial aspirant in Kebbi State, has called on Vice President Kashim Shettima to voluntarily resign from the Tinubu administration.

He argued that such a move would demonstrate goodwill and commitment to national unity and the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Nataro’s call comes amid ongoing debates over the 2027 elections and speculations about Tinubu’s potential choice of a new running mate.

He claimed that even before the recent controversy in Gombe State, where tensions flared over Vice President Shettima’s omission during an APC summit endorsement of Tinubu, it was clear that Shettima no longer enjoys the President’s full confidence.

He urged Shettima to step aside honorably.

“I have seen APC party officials fighting to strengthen the party before the next elections, especially in Gombe, where the discussion was about the best running mate to President Tinubu.”

“My attitude to that is that the ball is now on Senator Shettima’s court. If he is grateful for what Tinubu did to him by picking him up as running mate in 2022 and leaving out those who worked for the party, I can boldly say that if I were in Shettima’s shoes, I would resign from office.”

Nataro further elaborated on how such a resignation could be a symbolic act of unity and sacrifice:

“I will come out with a very inspiring letter to the APC National Chairman stating that I will not run with Tinubu in 2027, but that I am prepared with my good people in North-East to campaign massively for Tinubu to win in 2027.”

He acknowledged the contributions Shettima has made to the administration, but said a graceful exit could open up a new chapter in Nigeria’s political narrative.

“On the other hand, the resignation could afford the President the opportunity to change Nigeria’s political landscape by looking for a running mate from Southern Nigeria to give the international community the impression that Nigeria is one entity.”

Nataro also said that such a move could improve the President’s image among Nigerian youths and restore faith in performance-based leadership:

“At the same time, Nigerian youths will automatically change their perception about Tinubu and start seeing the President as a hero of democracy who is always looking out for performance rather than the political interests of some unscrupulous politicians.”

He emphasized that his suggestion is not rooted in antagonism but in political strategy, national cohesion, and legacy-building.

“I admire Senator Shettima for the able way he helped President Tinubu to move the administration forward, adding that if Shettima can have the courage to toe that path, President Tinubu will have no option but to reject the resignation.”

If the Vice President chooses to act as Tinubu’s campaign coordinator for 2027 instead, Nataro believes his loyalty and leadership would be richly rewarded.

“Even God will honour Shettima beyond measure.”

Reflecting on the President’s political instincts, Nataro said Tinubu’s initial decision to choose Shettima without widespread party consultation exemplified his boldness and commitment to national interest.

He also used the opportunity to restate his support for the administration’s reform agenda, noting that he has been actively engaging with key agencies to propose cost-saving and efficiency measures.

“That is why I have been reaching out to critical agencies of the administration with proposals on how to make things work, including a reduction in the cost of governance, cost-effective project execution and appropriate personnel management.”

He highlighted specific agencies that are pivotal to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration, led by Nyesom Wike.

“These agencies constitute the frontline drivers of the Renewed Hope Agenda. I hope they will reason with those submissions and recommendations,” Nataro stated.

BREAKING: Iran Surrenders, Declares End To 12-Day War With Israel

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially declared the conclusion of what he described as a 12-day war “imposed” by Israel, signaling a ceasefire between the two nations following nearly two weeks of intense hostilities.

In a televised address to the Iranian people on Tuesday, as reported by the state-run IRNA news agency, President Pezeshkian hailed the country’s resilience and framed the ceasefire as a triumph of national resolve.

“Today, after the heroic resistance of our great nation, whose determination makes history, we are witnessing the establishment of a truce and the ending of this 12-day war imposed by the adventurism and provocation of Israel,” he stated.

The conflict, which erupted on June 13, has drawn global concern, with fears of a broader regional escalation.

Israel maintained throughout the confrontation that its military operations were aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, an allegation Tehran has consistently denied.

Celebrations marking the ceasefire were held in several parts of Iraq, including Basra, where civilians took to the streets while Iraqi soldiers stood guard, underscoring the wider regional impact of the brief but intense conflict.

While details of the ceasefire agreement remain unclear, diplomatic sources suggest that indirect negotiations involving regional and international actors played a key role in brokering the truce.
