NSA Ribadu’s Office Vehicle Stolen During Juma’at Prayer In Abuja, Police Initiate Search

Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have launched a manhunt after a black Toyota Hilux, assigned to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nuhu Ribadu, was reportedly stolen during Friday’s Juma’at prayers in Abuja.

The incident occurred around 1:05 p.m. when the vehicle was parked opposite the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) complex in Area 10 while an ONSA official attended prayers at a nearby mosque.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the official returned after the prayers to discover the Hilux missing.

According to him, “a source said the theft was immediately reported to the Garki Police Division at approximately 2:00 pm, leading to a swift response by law enforcement.”

In response, the FCT Police Command launched an extensive stop-and-search operation across key checkpoints and all entry and exit routes in Abuja.

Confirming the incident, the police said investigations are in progress, and efforts have been intensified to apprehend those responsible and recover the stolen vehicle.

“The Command said it had intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen Hilux,” an official noted.

Nigeria’s Oil Reserves To Last 64 Years, Gas 93 Years – NUPRC

Nigeria’s crude oil reserves are projected to last for the next 64 years, while its gas reserves are estimated to sustain the country for 93 years, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

This projection was revealed in a statement released in Abuja on Friday and signed by the Chief Executive of the Commission, Gbenga Komolafe.

The figures represent the nation’s official reserves status as of January 1, 2025.

According to the report, the nation’s 2P (proven plus probable) crude oil and condensate reserves are currently pegged at 31.44 billion barrels and 5.84 billion barrels respectively, bringing the combined total to 37.28 billion barrels.

In addition, Nigeria’s associated and non-associated natural gas reserves have now reached 210.54 trillion cubic feet (TCF), marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy resource base.

Reiterating the Commission’s commitment to energy development, Komolafe said: “NUPRC remains committed to enhancing reserves growth and boosting oil and gas production, in line with the objectives set out in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.”

He further added: “The Reserves Life Index is 64 years and 93 years for oil and gas respectively.”

The NUPRC’s latest assessment underscores the need for continued investment in the petroleum sector and offers a clearer perspective on the longevity of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon resources in the face of evolving global energy dynamics.

Wike Announces Bold Reforms On Land Allocation In FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday unveiled a set of far-reaching reforms aimed at overhauling land allocation and development procedures within the territory.

Effective from April 21, 2025, the new measures cover key areas such as the conditions for granting Statutory Right of Occupancy (R-of-O), the structure of the R-of-O Bill, the Letter of Acceptance/Refusal of offer, titling of Mass Housing and Sectional Interests, and the regularisation of Area Council land documents.

A major highlight of the reforms is the imposition of a 21-day deadline for allottees to complete payment of required bills, fees, rents, and charges tied to Statutory Rights of Occupancy.

The payment must be accompanied by a completed Letter of Acceptance and proof of payment, failing which the offer becomes void.

Additionally, the time frame for developing allocated plots has been reduced to two years from the date of R-of-O issuance. Any development not completed within this window will risk revocation.

Announcing the reforms through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike said: “Any R-of-O bills and any other payments made outside the stipulated 21 days shall be considered invalid while any land granted should be developed within two years.”

He stressed the importance of streamlining land documents issued by Area Councils, noting that all lands in the FCT are classified as urban.

“On lands previously allocated by Area Councils, the law stipulates that all lands in the FCT are urban lands. It therefore becomes necessary that all land documents issued by the Area Councils are considered for regularisation to statutory titles in line with relevant statutes.”

He referenced a 2006 directive mandating Area Councils to submit all allocation records to the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) and Lands Department, which they complied with. However, he lamented the slow progress in regularisation.

“The 8,287 were vetted from 2006 to 2023 (17 years), and this represents just 3.2 per cent of the total land documents submitted for vetting and regularisation. As of today, the FCT Administration is still left with 253,627 submissions in its database,” the minister said.

He added that once vetted and confirmed, these Area Council land documents will be eligible for statutory titles, but allottees must make full payments within 60 days or forfeit the offer.

“Area Council land documents successfully vetted and confirmed would have statutory titles on such lands issued and the allottees will have 60 days to make full payments of all bills, fees, rents and charges prescribed failure of which the offers shall become invalid.”

On the Mass Housing Scheme, Wike expressed dismay over the lack of compliance among developers.

“From the inception of the Mass Housing programme in 2000 till date, out of the 445 Mass Housing allocations granted, only two developers have successfully met the terms and conditions,” he stated.

He explained that the Mass Housing Programme was designed as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative to deliver affordable housing, but the government has seen minimal cooperation from developers and residents.

“Currently, the holders/occupiers of properties within the various Mass Housing Estates in the FCT do not pay bills, rents, fees and charges to the government despite having held and occupied the properties for decades,” he said.

To address this, a new operational framework has been established to speed up titling for Mass Housing and Sectional Interests.

“According to him, a new operational framework for titling of Mass Housing and Sectional Interests has been developed to fast-track the exercise efficiently, effectively and diligently, in line with the vision to restore confidence in the administration of lands in the FCT.”

He concluded by directing all title applications to be submitted by developers or subscribers to the Department of Land Administration, beginning April 21, 2025.

“Processing of titles for Mass Housing and Sectional Interests shall commence on April 21, 2025, in line with the new operational framework,” Wike said.

SGF Defends Tinubu’s Appointments, Insists Federal Character Principle Was Followed

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has dismissed allegations of imbalance in President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, asserting the administration’s firm commitment to fairness, equity, and national cohesion.

Akume’s remarks, delivered on Friday, come in the wake of criticisms by Senator Ali Ndume, who had accused the President of breaching constitutional provisions in the distribution of federal appointments, particularly with regard to the Northeast region.

In response, the SGF emphasized that all appointments made by the Tinubu administration align with the constitutional requirement for federal character.

“All appointments under the current administration led by President Tinubu are made in strict adherence to Federal Character Principle, as enshrined in Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Altered),” Akume said in a statement.

He maintained that President Tinubu “is a strong adherent of the unity of Nigeria and is guided by the ideals of fairness and tenets of justice in all appointments.”

Akume further stressed the administration’s commitment to inclusiveness.

“It is against this backdrop that the administration is dedicated to ensuring that all regions and demographics of the country are adequately represented in its institutions and agencies,” he stated.

His comments follow the release of a detailed breakdown of appointments by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, who outlined the spread of appointments across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

To counter growing criticism, Akume called on citizens to ignore misinformation and instead rely on official channels.

“Pokers of embers of hate and disunity who carry tendentious and unfounded allegations should never be taken seriously by Nigerians,” he noted.

He urged the public to verify any inquiries regarding appointments through his office. According to the statement signed by his Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, “inquiries with respect to appointments should be channeled through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, which is the official custodian of such actions.”

Akume reaffirmed that the government remains “steadfast in its pursuit of a prosperous, united and equitable Nigeria, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration.”

Tinubu Faults Christian Clerics Who Testified Before US Congress On ‘Religious Persecution’ In Nigeria, Rejects Their Testimonies

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed testimonies given by two Nigerian Christian clerics before the United States Congress on alleged religious persecution in the country, describing them as “inaccurate” and “misrepresentative” of Nigeria’s security landscape and religious freedom efforts.

In a statement released Friday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government also expressed “serious concerns” over a related social media post by the U.S Embassy in Abuja, which referenced the testimonies of Bishop Wilfred Anagbe and Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihyula.

The two clergymen had appeared before a U.S. Congressional hearing on religious persecution, where they described widespread attacks on Christian communities, accusing the Nigerian state of failing to act.

Reacting to the claims, the Ministry stated, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs observes with concern a recent social media publication by the United States Embassy, Abuja, regarding the security situation in Nigeria and the testimonies provided by Bishop Wilfred Anagbe and Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihyula, on the unfortunate alleged threats that have arisen as a result of their testimonies at the U.S. Congressional Hearing on Religious Persecution in Nigeria.”

While acknowledging the right of the clerics to speak out, the government maintained that their portrayals did not reflect the broader and more complex reality on the ground.

“Though their testimonies misrepresent facts and oversimplify a deeply complex national challenge, the religious leaders are entitled to their opinions, freedom of expression, and association as enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution,” the statement noted.

It further challenged the suggestion that religious violence is allowed to flourish unchecked, labeling such claims as “both inaccurate and unfair.”

According to the Ministry, “The government has consistently taken decisive actions, including deploying security forces to areas affected by communal violence, engaging in peace-building efforts between farmers and herders, strengthening intelligence operations to track down criminal elements, and implementing policies to address root causes, including land use reforms and economic development initiatives.”

“It is important to state that, while challenges remain, it is incorrect to suggest that the Nigerian government has been inactive or indifferent,” the statement continued.

“The reality is that Nigeria is fighting multiple security threats, including banditry, terrorism, and organised crime, all of which affect different communities irrespective of religion.”

The government also firmly rejected the characterisation of the violence as an orchestrated campaign against Christians or an “Islamist extermination,” as suggested during the Congressional hearing.

“The government will continue to prioritise the protection of the lives and property of its citizens regardless of faith or ethnicity while strengthening national and international cooperation in the fight against insecurity,” it said.

Finally, the Ministry urged the international community and media to present a more balanced picture of Nigeria’s security efforts.

“We therefore call for responsible reporting that reflects the full complexity of the challenges at hand and promotes constructive dialogue rather than polarisation,” the statement concluded.

‘I Won’t Tolerate Any Financial Recklessness, Abuse Of Office – Ibas Warns Council Administrators

The Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has issued a strong warning to the newly appointed sole administrators of the state’s 23 local government areas, cautioning them against financial recklessness and abuse of office.

During a meeting held on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ibas made it clear that accountability and transparency would be the guiding principles of his administration, despite growing controversy over the appointments.

“I will not tolerate any form of recklessness, abuse of office, or misuse of public funds,” he declared.

“You are here to serve the people, not yourselves. Every kobo spent must be accounted for, and the people must see value for their money.”

The administrator urged the new officials to focus on key sectors including sanitation, environmental management, primary healthcare, the welfare and discipline of local government staff, education, and youth development.

“These are the key areas by which your performance will be assessed in the coming weeks,” he said.

“This is not the time for excuses. It is the time for results.”

He stressed that local government administrators must embody transparency and integrity in all their dealings.

“The people deserve to know how their money is being used. You owe them not only accountability but also dedication to their well-being,” Ibas said.

To ensure effective oversight, Ibas announced plans to implement mechanisms that will track local government activities and ensure adherence to proper governance procedures.

“We will establish a robust monitoring system to ensure that public funds are used judiciously. There will be zero tolerance for financial recklessness or any form of corruption,” he added.

Meanwhile, the political tension surrounding the appointments continues to mount. Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have condemned the move, calling it a violation of the Nigerian Constitution and a threat to democracy.

“The appointment of unelected individuals to administer local governments is a violation of the constitution and an affront to democracy,” a PDP governor said at a recent press conference.

“We urge President Tinubu to act before it is too late.”

Despite the criticisms, Vice Admiral Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace, order, and democratic principles in Rivers State.

“Your mandate is clear: restore peace and stability in your respective councils, and help return our democratic institutions to full operation,” he told the administrators.

“This responsibility is sacred, and you must carry it out with discipline, care, and utmost respect for the people you serve.”

I Was Offered N200million Bribe – Nigerian Rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem Speaks On ‘Tell Your Papa’ Song

Veteran Nigerian rapper and activist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has alleged that he was offered a N200 million bribe by an unidentified man claiming to be a senator, following the ban on his latest protest song, Tell Your Papa, by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

In a video circulating on social media, Abdulkareem revealed that the offer was disguised as covert support for his activism and protest music.

“So I got a call from one criminal who claimed to be a honourable; he didn’t even allow me to hear his name. After claiming to be a honourable, at the end of the call when I asked him what his name was, he claimed to be a senator,” he said.

According to the rapper, the caller claimed to have attended a meeting with government officials and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

During the call, the alleged senator said Abdulkareem should expect further bribe offers and promised underground sponsorship.

“He told me that he was in a meeting yesterday with Seyi (a son to President Bola Tinubu), and some government officials.”

“He said, ‘They are going to call you and bribe you, don’t listen to them, we are going to be sponsoring you underground’. I then asked him, ‘who told you that I need anything’?”

Abdulkareem said he immediately turned down the offer and challenged the motives of those involved.

“Immediately I heard his voice, I knew he was sent by them. So, I told him I was not interested. He said, ‘We will give you N200m, don’t even listen to them’. So, I asked him, the video I shot, was it you who sponsored me underground?”

“You guys should go and rest somewhere, I am not interested. Thieves, may God punish all of you. It’s me that you guys want to record for caricature; you people are insane.”

“I have prepared for you people a long time ago,” Abdulkareem added, expressing suspicion of a ploy to manipulate or discredit him.

His controversial song Tell Your Papa, which criticizes political leadership and highlights Nigeria’s deepening economic woes, was banned by the NBC on April 10. The move has since drawn widespread criticism.

The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) condemned the ban, warning that it may have the opposite effect of increasing the song’s popularity.

“It only serves to amplify the song’s reach and relevance in light of the current socio-economic challenges facing Nigerians,” the association said in a statement.

Similarly, Media Rights Agenda (MRA) blasted the NBC’s decision, calling it an abuse of its regulatory function.

“The NBC has completely confused its role as a supposedly independent media regulatory body with that of a propaganda agency charged with shielding the government from criticism or embarrassment,” said Ayomide Eweje, Programme Officer at MRA.

Council Boss Urges Investors To Harness Enugu South’s Agricultural, Commercial Potential

Enugu South Council Chairman,

The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani, has called on local and international investors to explore the rich agricultural and commercial opportunities available in the area.

Chief Ani made the appeal on Saturday during the Enugu South LGA Special Day celebration at the 36th Enugu International Trade Fair, organised by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA).

Highlighting the area’s numerous thriving markets and its favourable tropical climate conducive for high-yield agriculture, Ani described Enugu South as a strategic location for long-term economic growth.

“These time-tested advantages have positioned the local government as a hub for commerce, food security and export-oriented agribusiness in Enugu State, South-East and entire country,” he stated.

He further emphasized that Enugu South is blessed not only with fertile land and bustling trade activity but also with a skilled workforce across multiple sectors.

Chief Ani, fondly called “The Mayor” by residents, applauded the visionary leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, attributing the progress in the local government to the broader transformation agenda being championed at the state level.

“What we have done today is showcasing the various commercial and agricultural potentials and products of our dear Enugu South LGA; thus, cascading the development efforts of the governor, Dr Peter Mbah, down to the local government level,” he said.

He added, “What the governor is doing is encompassing, touching every sphere of the economy. In the agricultural sector, the governor is establishing 260 Smart Farm Estates which will cut across 260 political wards of the state.”

Chief Ani also highlighted key commercial assets within the area, including the International Building Materials Market located along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway and the Garriki International Produce Market.

“As a local government, the governor’s visionary development blueprint has inspired local initiatives, enabling Enugu South Council authority to deliver tangible democratic dividends to our grassroots communities,” he added.

In his remarks, ECCIMA President, Chief Odeiga Jideonwo, praised Ani for his developmental strides and efforts to uplift the socio-economic wellbeing of residents within a short time in office.

“I commend the Chairman, Enugu South Local Government, Chief Caleb Ani, for his giant strides and development efforts in his council. We are hopeful that with this partnership we will put Enugu State on the global map of economic advancement,” Jideonwo noted.

He further acknowledged the council’s active presence at the fair, describing it as a boost to the event’s success.

“The value, potentials and place of Enugu South Local Government in the economic development of Enugu State and Nigeria at larger, once again comes into focus,” he said.

“For us in the chamber, we are prepared to partner with all stakeholders that are ready to join in the development strides of Gov. Mbah; we just do not share in his vision only, but we have to keep the flag flying through platforms such as this trade fair,” the ECCIMA boss added.

The celebration featured exhibitions of local agricultural produce, indigenous livestock, and vibrant cultural displays, showcasing the council’s wealth in natural resources and investment opportunities.

The Enugu South LGA Special Day was widely regarded as a timely platform for unveiling the economic potential embedded within the area.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Bids ECOWAS Colleagues Farewell

As his tenure nears its end, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has officially hinted at his impending exit during a regional electoral summit in Gambia.

Speaking at the extraordinary general assembly of the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) in Banjul, Yakubu said this would be his final attendance as INEC Chair, sparking a fresh wave of political speculation over his replacement.

Yakubu’s absence earlier in the week had fueled rumors of his removal by President Bola Tinubu, particularly after a Labour Party delegation was received by Acting Chairman Sam Olumekun at the INEC headquarters.

The Commission, however, clarified that Yakubu was away for official duties in Gambia, and his position remains intact for now.

Addressing colleagues at the ECONEC meeting, Yakubu, who previously led the ECONEC Steering Committee, expressed concern over the retreat of democracy in West Africa, noting that while all regional countries were under democratic rule in 2017, four have since backslid into non-democratic governance.

He expressed hope for a democratic resurgence in the sub-region.

Meanwhile, attention is now shifting to who might succeed Yakubu and from which region the next INEC boss should emerge.

The discussion has already generated tension, with northern stakeholders urging President Tinubu to avoid a Southwestern nominee.

Critics argue that any move to appoint a Yoruba successor would only deepen suspicions of ethnic favoritism, especially given Tinubu’s existing appointments.

Some believe that appointing a Yoruba INEC Chair could precondition the outcome of the 2027 elections in favour of the incumbent president.

In response, Southwest elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain, Senator Femi Okurounmu, defended Tinubu’s right to appoint anyone he deems competent, stating, “Nobody should play up any ethnic sentiment now if Tinubu decides to pick a Yoruba man to replace Yakubu.”

Okurounmu also pointed out that since Nigeria’s independence, no Yoruba has ever headed the electoral commission—whether as FEDECO, NECON, or INEC.

He listed past chairmen, noting they have come from various regions, but none from the Southwest.

Northern elder, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, echoed a similar view, saying the President should not be pressured or distracted by ethnic debates.

“The constitution gives him the power to appoint the INEC Chairman,” he said, “and he has enough political experience to act in the nation’s interest.”

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) also dismissed attempts to influence Tinubu’s decision.

Its leader, Birtus Porgu, described the ongoing political lobbying as “a waste of time,” insisting the President is not one to bow to pressure.

In the same vein, President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shetima, and the Director General of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), Wale Okunniyi, called for reforms that would take the power of appointing the INEC Chairman away from the presidency, advocating a more democratic process instead.

While the conversation continues, INEC spokesperson Rotimi Oyekanmi confirmed that Yakubu’s absence was simply due to his participation in the international meeting and had nothing to do with his tenure or status.
